I'm looking for a new TV. I'd like to get around 50" for under $1K. Every time I'm in Sam's Club the Vizio's always look like they have the cleanest picture, and they retail for around $750. Anybody have any input?
P.S.

Poor quality control is an issue I frequently hear about. There was a small cottage industry here for a while, taking inoperative ones, replacing a few cheap diodes, and then reselling.
Nothing like having an expensive set die from a dollar part.
Go panasonic. You get what you pay for and they supposedly have a good warranty department.
I had a Samsung that had a very well known problem and Samsung was replacing the tv's but they failed to tell anyone. Well a few weeks later I started having problems with mine. They told me I missed the deadline and I was screwed. Won't buy another TV from Samsung ever.
We have a couple pamasonics now (42 and 50) and brother recently got a few samsungs (42, 50, and 55).
They're nice but they don't touch the new M series from Vizio IMO. We'll be putting the M55 in our new house for sure. IIRC it's under $1100 from amazon. The 50" is under $1k I believe. Wifi, 3D, 240hz, nice looks, ultra thin...it's worth a look.
any newer TV should beat a older one![]()
compare new against new
you get what you pay for Panasonic are pretty hard to beat all around and the top models are great
vizio is a budget line that makes a decent product for a decent price so overall you could say its a great product on features and price but not quality
think rock river or bushmaster vs say noveske or lmt
both are fun to go plinking with but I own LMT etc..
I have 2 Vizios in the house. A 42" and a 37"the 42 has been around for atleast 5 years (probably more) without a hitch. My only complaint is the speakers. Just not very loud. The 37 is maybe 3 years old and again no issues. This one has far better sound than the other. I won't hesitate to buy another Vizio if either of these crap out.
Samsung, Panasonic or Sony. Buy from Costco.
Vizio do have poor QC. My MIL had one explode right in their living room to where there was a hole in the screen and it was smoking. Sample of one but they are basically a budget brand for a reason.
If you want good sound get at least a sound bar. Stock speakers are almost universally not very good.
Ive had my vizio lcd tv for about 6 years now, works flawlessly.
ETA: i still have the original plastic protecting the bezel![]()

I have a Sony Bravia and like it but I would also own a vizio. They seem to make good stuff in their upper models but be aware vizio makes some cheap models for bulk stores and they have poor chipsets and screen quality.

Belmont nailed it to the nth degree.....I bought a 42" Sony Bravia HD from costco, and like a dumbass had it fall backwards onto the ground. Sony said your SOL.....however I had the Costco ext. warranty, and poof, within 2 weeks my TV was as good as brand spanking new.
I would have 100% ate the $800+ if I didn't buy that TV from COSTCO.
I have a Vizio 55" HD as well, and for the buck it's a fantastic TV.
That said, The Bravia has a much better picture in almost every category.
