Back in the States for a two weeks, I learned the lesson again.

I love it here, really I do. Was flying in with a young women from Syria who hopes to get a green card and become a citizen. As we fly over Maine she was glued to the window, after a few minutes I asked her what her first impression of America is, she said, "It is the Dream Land."

Just wanted to remind you guys that we have the best problems in the world.

Can't take credit for it, Thomas Sowell said it in a column about Black Americans complaining about being former slaves, etc. and how their ancestors would be happy that they are now Americans vs. being in some shit hole African country.

From time to time I have to remind myself of this. As easy as it is to stand around bitching about how things are going downhill, the USA is still the country that the rest of the people in the world are trying to get to.

The problems we have are but mole hills compared to whats going on in the rest of the world.

Not entirely disagreeing, but even into the fourth and fifth centuries when Rome was essentially gone, Barbarians, Huns, Vandals, Visigoths, etc continued to come in. Had nothing to do with the success of the state.

By "Dream Land" did she mean politically, or physically? Maine has many of the physical features described in the Koran about heaven.

Trying to get to and change, I would add.

I agree that the US is one of a handfull of countries that have minor problems compared to the rest of the world, but, as much as I love this country, I also don't think it is the single shining light on the hill.

I love the country and the opportunities. Some of the people sure try to ruin it though....

Having lived the previous 4 years of my life in countries in third and fourth world stains. I too can atest to just how good we have it here and how much I love my country just not the shit stains running it.

No matter how bad we have it here it can and will be worse elsewhere in the world.

Do yourselves a favor and Google West Point, Liberia. I lived in that country for two years. You all dont know what slum/Ghetto is until you have seen that place. Hell the Ghettos in America are like living luxury.
