    I believe that was in "Black Rednecks & White Liberals." I was reading it at a coffee shop while waiting to pick up my fiancé a while back. A lady actually asked me why I would read something so racist in public. I told her that it was actually a book on how some groups get manipulated by others to do exactly what they want, even when it's to their own detriment. An example being intellectual white politicians manipulating black people for their own political gains. Lady turned her attitude around in the blink of an eye. Suddenly it was fine by her.

    Yep, 1st World problems where the poor are overweight, have cable TV and free cell phones, not to mention the right to bitch about every last aspect of their pathetic lives without fear of getting black bagged and never heard from again.

    I lament our predicament all the time. Not because I believe we have it so bad, but because I cherish what we have and hate to see it flushed like soiled buttwipe. We owe it to future generations, to not roll over and let it just happen without a fight!

    Yeah, that is how I took it.

    While I understand the criticism in general and how it applies to many immigrants. That doesn't mean this woman from Syria shares any of those sentiments or has any idea why others do what they do.

    Lacking any evidence to the contrary, I think legal immigrants should get the benefit of the doubt, especially when they are being positive / optimistic about things.

    There is without a doubt, decent people in most groups, and I'd hate to alienate them (especially if they seem to be a minority representation of a group) because of the actions of others.
    It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    my caribbean friends could only dream of America and cant believe how good blacks have it but bitch about it ?

    A full third of my office is non-US born citizens. They're (the entire group) some of the hardest working people I've ever met. Aside from wanting to have a beer with Slick Willy to ask him how he puts up with the wife, there's not many kind things said about progressive liberals from anyone in my office.

    The majority of nonnatural citizens I've met are the same hard working honest people. The sh*theads who show up and ask for a check just stand out better...
