The case must obturate with both case and chamber types.
Because it takes very little to push the bullet from the case and the pressure does not peak until the bullet engages the rifling. Using a longer throat increases the actual case capacity at peak pressure. If you use the same amount of the same powder in a larger case, pressure and velocity drops. Increasing the amount of powder will bring pressure back up to normal with an increase in velocity.

Same as loading both a 300BLK to 50,000 psi with a 150 gr bullet will produce less velocity than loading a 308 Win to 50,000 psi with 150 gr bullet

Just got a Dissy with a midlength gas system; we'll look for any profound differences with the carbine system.
The business about the bayos was amazing; hadn't really thought about it, but that was surely part of the issue. Were it not for the bayonet business, the Dissy setup may well have been the norm.

I had a conversation with K.L. Davis about the early days of middy development. My information is from tech articles written back in the day, K.L. was actually there. He says "The 14.5" barrel is the proper length for the bayo, the Armalite mid-length is actually a half inch short - I went through the whole bayonet mounting thing when we did the M4K (shortest barrel that will mount the 203).

I assure you that the reason the mid-length was developed was not precipitated by mounting the bayonet... there were several other products in development about the same time, I submitted two different designs to Uncle Sam that had alternate gas port locations... designed only to reduce the operating pressure and slow the gun down..."

While K.L. Davis affirms the bayonet played a role in the barrel & gas system length of the M4, it didn't play as big a role in the design of the middy as my sources led me to believe.

    Just so

The reason they make anything is because someone wants it. And most people want it all. At least AR people. I want them all too. Carbine 8, 11.5, 14.5, 16,... Mid 16,18, (maybe 20), ... rifle 16, 18,20,22,24,.... M203... Acog, Eotech... Secretly I DO have them all but DON'T tell my wife Please!!!!

Right after I joined the service I went to my local gun shop in around 1999-2000 if I recall, said I wanted a good reliable and affordable at rifle since I carried one at work and three gun stuff was starting to show up around the area. I shot alot of uspsa just to get better at shooting and as a fun thing to do between my deployments.

The shop sold me my first mid length a armalite that I still haveto this day. It shot soft and was very front heavy compared to my m4 at work. I keep record of rounds shot via a log for every gun I have. Right now I have 22418 round out of my armalite and always replaced stuff I saw that was gonna break and with regular tlc of a rifle that I shoot all the time it has been perfect. My 6920 kicks more my ddm4v7 kicks less and my bcm is about the same so who knows what one is better my armalite is now set up for three gun duties and my m4v7 is my go to rifle. I've had really good luck with all quality manufactures of ar rifle and does the 5.56/223 kick that much? No not really but if we are spending our hard earned money on a rifle it should be the best we can afford IMHO.

I like all my rifles, if I had one I didn't like it got sold off so if you buy something that you don't like just sell it off and get something else. My m4v7lw is my favorite but I love my colts too so get whatever you like the best.

Moon, how are the dissy's setup? Can they use a carbine or mid-length gas system, then just cover it with a rifle hand guard? Or does it have to be mid-length? I've always been a little intrigued by the dissy's, just never really looked to much into them.

    Thanks, NYH1.

A AR15 with 16" barrel that has a rifle length hand guard. I'm wondering what type of gas system is "required" on them.
