    2nd Day Air is expensive.

It's more than likely cheaper to have your LGS ship it for you via USPS (depending on what they charge for the service).

That's next day air and UPS does not allow you to use the cheapest next day air.

Yes, 'scuse me....Next Day Air, as is required by both UPS and FedEx for shipping firearms. I've never shipped one that way, after checking the prices the first time years ago.

You can not use USPS if you are not a FFL holder.

If you are not a FFL license holder there are no other options for shipping firearms yourself. Many choose therefore to pay a FFL holder to ship their firearms, thus saving some money.

Since when did UPS require 2nd Day Air??

FYI It wasn't even $60 to ship a firearm from Honolulu to Florida using UPS circa 2010. That's an enormous increase.
Why do the loudest do the least?

Handguns require Next Day Air. Long guns can go by ground service.
