I'm jumping into the AR platform from a Sig 556 piston gun. I'm a lefty so I liked the idea of the charging handle on the right side of the receiver when I bought it. BCM is going to install an ambi charging handle on my new purchase, so I'll be smiling all over!

Your "practical, down-to-earth advice" is very subjective. Opinions are like assholes. Let it go. OP after researching the merits of quality optics I feel confident you'll make a decision that you're happy with. Ignore any an all pissing contests.

To get back to the theme of this thread: I didn't see it anywhere already posted so let me be the first to suggest to the op a Colt 6920.

With the caveat that you are paying hundreds of dollars more simply to get the Rampant Colt on your lower receiver.

But it's a good AR, to be sure.
The 6920 is about $250 cheaper the BCM 16" mod 3.

I find it curious that some people offering advice were recently asking about what upper to get and then simply abandons the post.

This topic has been beat to death, dug up and beat again. I suggest that the OP do some reading and look at the pattern. You'll see that you can't go wrong with many of those brands mentioned.
