Most firearm contracts for LE work, including in large agencies, are simply price driven. I'm aware of multiple instances where requirements were written so a pre established outcome could be achieved. Of course the line troops are always told they have the best weapons and that price didn't matter.

I've got some great stories of altered weapons in federal testing programs as well. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Selling guns is big business.

Board policy mandates I state that I shoot for BCM. I have also done work for 200 or so manufacturers within the firearm community. I am prior service, a full time LEO, firearm instructor, armorer, TL, martial arts instructor, and all around good guy.

I also shoot and write for various publications. Let me know if you know cool secrets or have toys worthy of an article...

If I recall correctly, Colt, Sig, and RRA all won contracts for the carbine requirement. Agencies could order from any of them.

And, some LEO's are gun guys.

The reason I bought Colt LE6920's was on the recommendation of an LEO.

Sure some are, just don't assume they know what they are talking about just because they are LEO.

I retired from that agency in 2007 and had an issued Colt M16. I never saw a RR in inventory. I was also a firearms instructor so they certainly were not in my field office. As for Quals, at the time it was 50 qual course and you had to qual 4 times a year. Some practiced lots did not. Alot of non gun agents but that was only to be expected as mentioned before. My personal ARs are Daniel Defense. One could also make the observation that some SWAT agents were issued Springfield Armory Professional models and agents carried Glocks. Kinda the same thing except of course for caliber.

Even if you have to deploy it once, it needs to fire, cold bore, consistently, every time. Such low tier for a federal agency boggles my mind.

Handgun quals are 4 times a year. Long guns are only 1 qual a year. Some divisions have really good programs where the instructors require some manner of tactical shooting/drills for handgun and/or long gun each time in addition to the PQC. Some divisions do not.

The current PQC is 60 rounds and must be shot from concealment. The Qual for M4/MP5 is still 50 rounds annually.
