    looking to paint my ak

Hi, looking to paint my new ak (ssr-85) with moly resin. Not only new to ak's but never really painted a project like this either. The molyresin calls for curing at 300F, that isn't gonna damage the spring in my mag release is it?

And my rifle has a dull black finish, I don't even know park when I see it (I'm that new). Couple pics of it:

I've read molyresin adheres pretty well to parkerizing, so if that's park maybe I can just prep it real good and paint over? Would it be advisable to go the extra mile and grit blast it? I like the gun a lot and am happy to put some extra money into it. And I really wanna go for the original ak look, were the original russian rifles semi-gloss or flat?

I would just use Krylon. It might not be as durable, but it will be easier to apply and easier to touch up. In my experience it is durable enough and serves the purpose.

Looks parkerized from the pictures. Strip it down to its components, degrease, spray, and bake. Should be GTG.

I don't know original finishes, but I'm pretty sure it changed from country to country, year to year, etc.

Use duplicolor 500' semigloss paint. Its a dead ringer for factory russian finish. Bake it for an hour and it is a very durable finish.
