My wife has a Mossberg mdl 500 pump 410 ga. with an 18 in. barrel, pistol grip loaded with low brass no. 6 birdshot that my she can use in the house. Is it an ideal load for self defense - probably not.

There's virtually no recoil so she's no afraid of it. And yes, slinging buckshot out of the house is a concern for her.

None of our rooms is especially big and the 18" barrel spreads the load very quickly. Getting hit with no. 6 birdshot from just a few feet away would be quite discouraging for any criminal who gets hit with it. She's practiced with it and is very good shooting it from the hip.

Exactly the same here... The shotgun sits in the corner with Federal LE132 1B but if I have time to get to the safe I'd prefer to have the AR (over penetration is an issue for my living conditions)

There are numerous recorded incidents of criminals not being discouraged after being hit multiple times from 9mm/.40/.45/.223/etc. Dont count on .410 being a show stopper.

In my choked 20" 870 it is awesome. I have sold off all of my misc. shotgun ammo and just buy the FC 00 8 pellet and a Federal slug that also does wonders.

If you are still looking for the ammo shoot me a PM the next time you are driving through Richmond to Hampton. A friend has a shop right off 64.

Found a bunch of Federal FC 8 pellet at GT distributors last week and bought the case (250rds). I took them to my dept range and shot 75 rds at 15, 25 and 35 yds and I am happy to report that this round more than exceeds my needs and had great patterning. Thanks for the help everybody!

PS I went with a 3gungear 8-round side saddle and the 2-round emergency reload caddy on the forearm. The side saddle has 6-buckshot and 2-slug (remington 1oz managed recoil) and the emergency 2-round caddy also has 2-slug. I am ghost loading the VM so I have 9+1 in the gun with the FC buckshot, that should keep any "guests" entertained until the cavalry shows up or I fight my way to my SGL-21 with the 75rd drum in the safe.
