Hornady TAP 00 - I do though keep 2 slugs in my side armor saddle. It's low recoil which was a consideration for the wife and she has been able to manage the recoil.

Getting her to actually proficiently run the shotgun though is another story.

This is what I use as well, the flight control was makes the shot pattern very well.

I guess I should check my 870 again, but I believe it is one #4 then alternating 00 and slug for ten total rounds.
    I believe everything is federal.
My reasoning is the first round is breaching glass, the rest are, "The fight is on". We have some pretty cool laws about property in Texas. You had better drop what you got or hit the street before I can cycle that puppy ten times. Damn sure, you'll either change shapes or catch fire before it is over.

from the opposite perspective: SWAT team with M4's confronts a bad guy bent on suicide-by-cop. BG takes 7+ lethal rounds of LE/Bonded into vital areas - but not before he gets off 2-3 post-hit rounds from a 30-30 *LEVER ACTION*.

and all I can think while the SWAT dude tells the story is..."tell me again why a bunch of Benelli's is such a bad idea?"

I have a defensive 12g being shipped to me tomorrow and was deciding on HD ammo. This thread was a huge help. Thanks guys. Now to go get some whatever ammo for the range and classes.

Ranger 00 HD full-power 9 pellet buckshot. It patterns very well from my M1014. Much better than Flite Control. Benelli's hate that stuff. It patterns slightly better than those cheap green-hull military buckshot rounds for me, once you step past about 20-25 yards. This is due to the smaller ID of Benelli bores, in my opinion. They average 0.728". Most others are 0.730-0.734 or so. This is just speculation on the craptastic performance. I have personally shot Flite Control through a friends 590A1 mossberg and gotten all 9 pellets in a piece of typing paper at over 40 yards. Reliably. It's a good round, just doesn't play well with Benelli. The Ranger HD stuff is my preference regardless, though, because in a house, unless your last name is Trump, you're still likely keeping them all where they belong, with a bit of spread to hit multiple organs. It's very easy to hit an out-stretched firearm/hands/forearms, and this insures that maybe a few pellets will hit that chest/thoracic cavity unimpeded, as well. Maybe just "paper logic", but it makes good sense to me vs using a fragmenting slug (which is what FC really is, terminally, in a house, for all intents and purposes).
