Ideally you could always find the same bullet weight, but I've found that around these parts (next door to 7th or 8th largest city in US last time I checked) .223 / 5.56 ammo was nearly impossible to get for a long period following the CT school shootings. It is better now, but I still find I have to buy whatever bullet weight is available as supplies don't last. At least if I want to shoot / keep ammo on hand. Long thought short, make some adjustments / notes and you're set for any situation with the ammo you can find.

There's no need for that. The TAP is a better HD round than XM193, but the cost of XM193 makes it a better training/plinking round. Pretty common to find folks using different ammo for training than what they use for HD/duty. The moral of the story is shoot both & know where they both hit, and if the difference in POA/POI is negligable (that's a judgement call you'll have to make), then zero for the load you'll be using for HD and just live with the difference when you're shooting training ammo.

Your glass is half full, this is an opportunity to learn a bit about your weapon & ammo combination(s).

Thing with XM193 is as good of a plinking round it is, judging by pretty much every ballistics test I've seen, seems to be a pretty good choice for a defensive ammo as well considering it goes tumble the frag nasty at 2,700fps or greater....

How big is your house? I do not see how it should be that much of a problem inside of 50 yards. I never lived in a giant house and 50 yard shots were impossible in mine, I cannot see how a shot can be take further than that in a home.

Nothing will be further than 50 unless SHTF, then the XM193 would be coming out (let's hope that's never necessary).

Then you would not be zero'd for M193 which would be used more often.

I am no expert. So I am just saying what I do.

I hope next weekend I can test a wider range of my ammo, especially the new 64 gold dots at 50 yards to see if they are too off. If I get in the 6" circle plate, I call it good.

I'm already zero'd at XM193, but not my tap. v1 is 50 yard zero with a T-1, V5 is zeroed at 100 with an Accupoint

I know, sorry I my response was strange. I meant if you changed the zero to TAP, when it may not even matter, then you will lose the M193 which will be used more often, at varying ranges were zero matters.

Gotcha, exactly what my thoughts were. I started the post basically to confirm (or confirm why I'm wrong) my thoughts.... I will still test my TAP and report back.

Inside the house you are going to hit low anyway. Due to sight and barrel offset in many cases. I would shoot them both at 10 and 20 yards and verify that.
