DDLES Small Frame Lower - FTE Issues

Finally got a chance to shoot my build for the first time this past Sunday. Unfortunately I'm plagued with failure to eject issues, so I'm going to try a few things to remedy. I've tried different ammo (steel case, brass, 115/124/147gr) with the same results. I'm going to remove the heavy buffer and try the one from my AR just to see what happens. If this doesn't work, I'll have to look more closely at the ejector itself to see if it needs tweaking. It's a free float design that supposedly aligns itself, but something just isn't working properly. I'll post updates as I test and if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Where is the cartridge lodging? What bolt are you using? What trigger are you using? What buffer spring are you using?

A standard carbine buffer is too damn light and will damage the lower. The 9mm RRA buffer is fine, I run a Slash 8.5 ounce buffer and it's smooth as glass. It's a whole package deal, can't just throw what ever you can find in it.

    Do not tweak the ejector.........

It's lodging in different places. One time it flipped up and jammed in the groove of the charging handle. It was a bitch to get out.
I'm using a CMMG ramped bolt that was modified by adco for glock mags. The buffer is a RRA 9mm buffer with a standard carbine spring. Trigger was part of lpk from palmetto state armory.

I have read that others switched to a standard buffer and it worked perfectly. Just to be sure, this is the ddles lower for glock mags. I'm sure there is a difference between that and the colt style lowers when it comes to the ejector. This ejector "floats" so it may not be in the exact same spot with each shot.

I used a Wolff spring from Slash.........I think it is a XP.
You could always try another buffer, make damn sure you get a buffer spacer if you use the shorter carbine buffer. If not you will be breaking bolt stops.

Here is an excerpt from a 9mm owner from another site:

"Mine wouldn't cycle very well on a heavy 9mm buffer either. I switched to a standard weight buffer and ran a spacer in the buffer tube. Cycles 100% with any ammo I shove into it now."

I'll probably try using quarters, maybe 3-4, and the standard buffer and see what happens. I looked up the spring you mentioned also and found one for around $15, so that may be my next option since it's a cheap solution.

Can't hurt to try it. The Slash buffer I am running is longer so n need for the spacer. I believe you will need 7 or 8 quarters. What you want is to limit the bolt's rearward travel to about 1/4" aft of the bolt catch. Limits the momentem of the bolt wham a mag runs empty. Nearly eliminates the problem of bolt stop breakage.

My 9mm-Q buffer works great, but with the Wolff spring it won't lock back manual, so I use a standard carbine spring.

Maybe a problem with your extractor?
