    Night shoot Plates

Recently helped organize a pistol lowlight/flashlight plate match shoot.
2 six shot strings at 10,15,20,25yards at daytime par of 6,7,8,9 sec. respectively. 48 rounds total

    Handheld or weaponmounted light allowed.
Everyone started from the low ready, lights had to be off until start buzzer.
Scores were way down from daytime plate matches.
Do you think the par times need to be increased?

The purpose was flashlight/weapon manipulation & target acquisition in the dark.

Did I mention it was 31 degrees and snowing?

I would definetely increase the round count from 48 rounds to around 150. I did an IDPA style night shoot last winter that allowed hand held lights or weapon mounted lights / lasers. It was a pretty educational experience. Fun stuff. It was snowing during the event and about 25 degrees

Think I'm going to increase the par times, and change some targets.

Funny thing, even those with weapon mounted lights sucked, myself included.

I've learned you've never manipulated you weapon/light in the dark And I mean all lights even over head lights are off, It's an eye opener.

Shooter ready? beep, Crap I can't see my gun to operated the switch!(most practice with some light on) Light comes on opps there goes my night vision, Where's that target? Oh shit where's my front sight picture!
Bang!Muzzle flash! Can't see squat, Shooting reloads? What's with all the smoke?(Thinking bullet lube) Aquireing next target 5 more to go.
Oh by the way your time was over before you even got the 1st shot off

If they allow lasers get a TLR-2HL from Streamlight. I've shot 5 night time 3 gun matches over the past two years and nothing beats a laser for speed and accuracy at night!

Is there a particular reason you are sticking with PAR times instead of raw time?

Not really, just because the hard core shooters who do this during the day wanted it that way.
