However, I am looking to bring this to the market place and hopefully at a price point that makes sense to people.

    Gov't size
Railed and non railed (end user preference)
    Highcut grip
Proper Dehorn (what I call a shooters dehorn) One will not understand this until you shoot one side by side with one that does not have it
Good sights. No tritium period, plain black rear and shooters choice for front. I tell people what ever you pick up the fastest use.
Ambi's I think are a must IMO, again subject to shooter

Front/back strap treatment - No girly hands allowed
well beveled magwell area. Magwells are nice but not a necessity.

Reliability, Accuracy, Trigger is a given
THIS. Especially the ambi. Hated them for years now I realize they are a must IMO on a 1911 that you may have to fight with.

    'nuff said.
I can't agree with that as Glocks have no soul and I can only assume that you didn't see the thread title.

Jeff Cooper's minimalist requirements are solid, but there's more to it. Most of us can grab poor examples of the 1911 pattern pistol and point out the sights we can see and the trigger we can manage. A dehorning is nice but there are other things that need to be squared away before I care about that.

I take it you've never had a sharp Colt.

My last Colt was like playing with a Rubik's cube made of razor blades. Off to Alchemy it went.....

    Must have when I 'm buying a 1911.
Fit everything must fit together tight, and be well built.
Most everything else can be added/removed if needed.

You are correct, I've never had a Colt 1911. If I had one with edges as sharp as you say, then dehorning would be in order all right.

Once I'm in the realm of paying the equivalent of 3x or more the cost of a G19, might as well go for features which are nice, instead of merely requisite for a worthwhile carry weapon. Hence in practical terms, my 'nice to have list' is indistinguishable from my 'must have list', because the difference between a reliable, accurate, 230grJHP feeding 1911 and a 1911 which is all of the above but has great grips, a quality 5# trigger, and top end sights is trivially minor as far as cost. Defeats the hole purpose of a 1911!

When it comes to being able to justify the cost of owning a 1911 which meets the minimal requirements on a handgun worth carrying as duty/carry grade, for the cost to performance ratio to make any kind of sense that pistol needs to outperform a cheaper modern handgun in some areas - hence why the 'unnecessary' trigger job putting a 1911 at that wonderful 4.5-5# glass rod is effectively a requirement before I'll consider carrying a 1911. Same with the a lot of the ergonomics of the pistol.
    4lbs to 3lbs & lots of practice.

To me as a lefty it must have an ambi safety. After that grips that weld your hand to it, a BT, MW, flat MSH, crisp 3/4lb trigger, fire HPs, & then the rest is preference. Mine just needs night sights, a S&W custom shop BT, & a MW. Love this thing.

I own more than one Colt 1911 (and less than one hundred) and I have never had one with the so-called razor edges (lucky maybe?). I have, however, had a couple that had sharper edges on the inside areas of the slide or frame but none I could shave with.

This one is pretty close. It was my first duty gun. It saw a butt load of use as a USPSA, work, off duty, everything gun before it was rebuilt and semi retired.

    Specs for a 1911 today:

    Tritium night sights.
    Beavertail GS.
    70 series system.
    S&A type magwell.
Small, non competition single sided thumb safety.
    Light rail.
    Top quality white light.
Crimson Trace laser grips if the white light did not have a laser.
    3.5-4# trigger.
    4 8 round Wilson mags.
    4 10 round Wilson mags.
Barrel that has been welded up then had lugs re-cut properly by someone who knows what they are doing.
    Properly fitted bushing.

Milt Sparks 55BN for off duty/plain clothes use.
Quad mag pouch for uniformed work.

Loved carrying my 1911 as a duty gun, but aside from plainclothes assignments, the Glock 21 .45 was a better choice for rolling around on the asphalt with defendants/democrats.
THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL.
