1. Mid length gas system
2. 13" or longer. Long arms and I like to put the light way out front
3. Shaved fsp with flip ups

1) Mid length because i feel carbine gas system is for 14.5" barrels. Don't need the over pressure of a carbine length system on a 16" barrel.
2) 14.5" - 15" rail. I choose a long 14.5"-15" rail because i don't want to be limited by where i can put accessories or where i can grip my handguard for better manipulation of the rifle.
3) low pro gas block with flip up buis. My rifle doesn't see the kind of thrashing nor is there a risk for such thrashing that the boys in teh sandbox have to put their rifles through. The extra strength and rigidity that a pinned fsb has over a screwed on buis does not outweigh having more rail real-estate for my intended uses.
ETA: looks like it's almost unanimous for the midlength. I wouldn't be averse to a longer rail with a Troy or DD fixed front sight on said rail. I kinda like the DD Modular Rail----it's relatively narrow, smooth for a thumb-over grip, and can place the necessary rails where you want them. Just wonder about how hot it could get in sustained fire.

I prefer the middy. I've seen the carbine length system work very well with a 16" barrel, but I prefer the middy because, in theory, it's easier to tune and is more forgiving
My carbine has the middy MOE handguards and I prefer their length to carbine length handguards, but there are times I wish they were a bit longer. I have a 20" rifle with rifle length FF tube that I like even better although it might be too long for a 16" carbine2. What do you think is the ideal length of rail? Or what length of rail do you prefer?
If mounting an Aimpoint, I would prefer, but not require, a low profile gas block. The Aimpoint I have has proven itself to be reliable, requiring minimal maintenance. If mounting a magnified optic, a low profile gas block is required. In either case, I want a flip up rear sight.3. If you had a choice between an FSB upper or flip sights which would you prefer. Taking into account that the FSB is the most secure and solid of the two.
I want a FF tube that's either carbon fiber or polymer. I don't want an aluminum tube because of the heat & cold temperatures I use my rifles in. I want a smooth tube with a shape that fits my hand. I like the shapes of the PRI Delta, the Lancer and the MOE. I'm seriously considering the Lancer for my carbine
PS- No rails. I don't have use for much rail estate

1. Mid-length
2. 14"
3. Shaved and pinned FSB. DD fixed sights.
On a 16 inch I prefer a Mid length Gas system.
Rail should be at least 12 inchs.
Fixed front sight Base is preferred to any rail mounted solution unless I am doing magnified optics.

IG,
My preferences for 16" carbines are listed below:
- Mid-length gas system
- 14-15" rail. I'm 6'5 and need the length. Anything shorter squishes me, especially when trying to use a WML whose body needs to be mounted in front of my grip so I can reach the rear activation button with my thumb (if I'm not using a tape switch, which is always; I don't trust wires hanging off of my rifle). A 14-15" rail also has a larger usable market than an 11" rail. A short person can use a 14-15" or an 11" comfortably. I can only use a 14-15" comfortably. Going with an 11" cuts me out of the market and only leaves shorter people. Going with a 14-15" cuts no one out of the market, as all of us -- short and tall -- can use such a rail.
- Flip up sights with a pinned, low-profile gas block. A FSB may be sturdier, but with how rugged Aimpoints, ACOGs, and other combat optics are these days, a FSB's durability isn't all that important since it will very rarely be used. Its sturdiness is outweighed by its inconvenience when it comes to optics. It is also heavier than a low profile gas block, and makes it awkward to use a longer-length rail (forcing the rail to either have a cut out, or forcing the rail to be shorter than it needs to be). Flip up sights fill the BUIS role much better in today's world of bomb-proof optics, I think.
These responses come from my experience firing a few thousand rounds through 2x BCM SS410 16" mid-lengths and 1x Colt LE6920.
Hope that helps.![]()

Mid or KAC-intermediate length.
I think 12-13.5" is good on a 16" barrel. 13.5" like the URX3.1 and NSR are perfect lengths for a 16".2. What do you think is the ideal length of rail? Or what length of rail do you prefer?
DD fixed front sight on the rail or KAC Micro on the front.3. If you had a choice between an FSB upper or flip sights which would you prefer. Taking into account that the FSB is the most secure and solid of the two.
Essentially a SR-15 E3 Mod1 upper or a Noveske N4 with 13.5" NSR upper.
