1 piece gas rings & BCM

I've tried some of these out. The amount of tension between the bolt and carriers vary. I've had a pretty tight one that choked few times with the first few mags, but it ran fine after that. I've had others that I swapped after just about 1k through them. I couldn't feel any drag between the bolt and carrier at all. I could hold the BCG bolt upright and the bolt collapses all the way by its own weight.

I have used these two carbines and had no trouble. I wonder if they somtimes have tolerance issues with what I hear from time to time.

    Yeap.
And you might still want to measure the ring o.d..
Armalite is the only company Ive seen that gives a specific dimension for the McFarland rings for the M15 and AR10.
And according to Armalites old ARFCOM FAQ,stated they hold the trademark on the McFarland FWTW..

More info on the McFarland rings here:

As stated in the many links on the subject,Ive been using the McFarland rings for years in various AR15's and haven't had any issues with the rings from a known source.

I've never heard of McFarland style rings fixing any problems with properly assembled and manufactured weapons, only causing them.

I'll check on that; I had not seen any spec data. Thanks!

The economy. Very, very slowly, one gas-ring at a time...

Seriously, I cannot fathom what it benefits, either. Crane tried them in the MK18, and came to the same conclusion.

In some cases they don't burn out as fast. In some other cases they can seal a little better.

I've use the one-piece ring on a couple different rifles with no issues. One was a DPMS carbine and it actually seemed to cycle better. I guess every one is different.

Ok, so Armalite says spec I'd 0.499-0.501". The ones I bought from Brownells (sold to them by Armalite, apparently) are middle to high end of this range. Is there a published spec from Crane?

IG stated that a set of his failed the test but the gun was still running 100%; is this par for the course with these or should one replace them as soon as they fail the test regardless of 100% function?

How can one be sure they are getting genuine McFarlands when buying from reputable sources?

    Just curious. Thanks!
