    1800 200 more rounds (100 Blazer, 100 Geco)

Again, I shot two times this weekend. Once on Friday(100) and once today(100).

I shot several guns this weekend, and kept up with my FAST times.

Ruby, my Wilson remained champion and actually put some distance between itself and the other contenders.

My best FAST times of the last two days were....

    1. WC CQB Elite 5.46 (Geco)
    2. G19 6.05 (Fiocchi 115)
    3. M&P45 Mid size 6.21. I feel like I could get this gun into the 5s with a little more practice. (Geco)

It was extremely cold and windy at the range today, and my concealment garment was a heavy coat. Again, my reloads were my weak spot with the G19. I am generally .3 seconds faster on my reloads with the 1911. This is a combination of three things, 1. The 1911 mags eject faster and 2. The mag funnel is faster and 3. The slide release on the Glock is slow. Yes I know I could sling shot, but that would be even slower.

Of course, a lot of this is familiarity. I have a lot more trigger time on 1911s than any other single gun. But I simply find it easier to shoot a 1911 fast while remaining accurate. I know it has become fashionable, especially with the expiration of the AWB, to poo-poo the 1911 as being antiquated compared to the modern wonder nines, but I think it is really, really hard to beat the superior shoot ability of the 1911. I also recognize that I am a fairly middling shooter, so my results aren't particularly relevant to the super Ninjas of the world.

I didn't manage to screw up any of my guns this weekend. God Bless Army Chief.

Nice selection of blasters Greg. I haven't seen many other people around here with both a WC 1911 and an HK P7M8.

Kinda off topic, but since we seem to be in the same area in GA, where do you shoot at? I'm in Warner-Robins and driving down to Ocmulgee is a PITA and I don't like the slow fire rule.

I am also in Warner Robins. I go to Marion Road. It is a great range. You have to deal with the occasional bossy pants and range-Nazi, but overall they have a pretty tolerant attitude.

    2000 rounds (150 Blazer, 50 Monarch "Gold")

    2000 rounds!

Well, the Wilson hit the 2000 round mark today. I took it out with my S&W M&P VTAC and put it through its' paces. I ran myself through a modified set of Hackathorn Standards and FAST drills. Because it was raining and cloudy, I was also able to do quite a bit of laser practice.

Ruby continues to function perfectly. I cannot stress enough how easy this gun is to shoot well. I was able to perform my Hackathorn drills and FAST tests faster with my 1911 than my 9mm M&P. And that is no knock on the M&P. I think the M&P is, bar-none, the easiest of the modern combat autoloaders to shoot well. It is just that the 1911 does everything superbly.

I am a big convert to the fiber optic sight as well. The first one I ever had was on a Colt TALO model a while back, and I liked it, but didn't really trust it. And I worried that I was sacrificing low-light capability for range capability. To a certain extent this is true. But the fiber optic is clearly visible in reduced light, more so than tritium. Today it was dark and cloudy and raining like crazy, but the light that made it through was more than enough....

I will say I am considering "gilding the lilly" and painting the front sight with orange paint, to see if that offers anything like it does on the Hackathorn sights. Again though, I run crimson trace grips on all of my pistols just in case I need to fight in darkness.

That being said, it was dark enough that shooting with the CT grips was a breeze. I practiced draw and shooting while on the move. I am very practiced at shooting on the move, and doing so with a laser isn't really any easier. Actually, I prefer to use my sights, but the laser is perfect for night fighting. Anyone who has shot at night knows that the chances of you seeing your tritium sights after the first shot flash aren't good. The laser greatly increases your odds. Sermon ended.

It is clear that my gun isn't a range queen. It is already getting an interesting patina from all the draws. I would guess the gun already has about 400 live-fire draws from a hard kydex holster, and it shows, particularly at the muzzle. This tickles me because I have a fetish for the worn look.

I have a new flat recoil spring from Wilson, which I will use to replace the current one when it wears out. But honestly, the gun is so smooth it is hard to justify fooling with it until something starts acting funny. Right now, the gun runs flawlessly on every kind of round. I have some 230 grain Gold dots I may try this week, as they have choked all my 1911s in the past. I wanted to wait until the gun was past any conceivable break-in period. I probably shouldn't since they aren't on Wilson's suggested list, but this gun has impressed me so much I think it will eat them.

Solid post. Interesting point on laser follow up shots.
My old eyes love fiber optic. My MNP Pro with fiber is money.

I am seriously considering switching to a gold bead. I had one of those on a Novak's custom I had a few years back, and on an officer's model. They are the bomb. They have about 90% of the FO rod's brightness without any concerns about it coming out. I would also like to switch out to a solid trigger (just for aesthetic reasons.)

    2300

    2300 Rounds (200 rounds GECO /50 Rounds RWS/ 50 Rounds "Gold Dot")

Lots of shooting this week. I took advantage of the holiday to shoot three times this week. Unfortunately, my visit to the range on friday resulted in a nasty pulled muscle in my lower back (While transitioning from prone to standing with my rifle). I was hoping to fire 500 rounds this week but my back wouldn't allow it.

Lots of good practice this week. Hackathorn standards, FAST drills, Lots of multi target transition practice. I am trying to speed up my times transitioning between targets.

At one point the FO rod in my front sight came loose. I actually took advantage of this to use the front sight aperture for some long range practice. LOL. I hit the front sight with a lighter and reset the rod in the front sight.

I also ran 50 "Gold Dot" 230 grain rounds through the gun. I have had terrible luck with Gold Dots in my 1911s in the past. In fact, the Wilson manual does not list them among its recommended rounds. Ruby ate all 50 rounds without any drama. Not a lot of rounds, but I wanted to see if they would cause any obvious problems. In my old Colts they wouldn't get through more than a single mag.

My love affair with the mag well on this gun continues. Compared to my M&P, this thing is amazing. I really like the M&P, but both my 9mm and .40 have miserably slow mag ejects compared to the WC. I usually practice my reloads from my pockets, but during fast drills I use a mag carrier. With the WC the chances of flubbing the load is nearly zero. With the M&P (or Glock) it is a bit iffy. These are things that really don't show up until you are running a timer.

    Until next week!

Great thread. I've never had a single hiccup from any of my WCs with Gold Dots. My CQB Tac LE probably has 250 GDs through it. Most of those were during its break-in period. Very happy with that thing.

The 1911s I had issues with GDs were all Kimber POSs.
