Yes, the gas block I bought is confirmed by the AR armorer at the lgs and was test fitted on their own barrels. It slid on their middy phospate barrels with no issue or lubrication.

When I was trying to install the gas block at home, I did use a bit of Hoppes9 lube on the inside of the gb with no luck.

Yes it is completely impossible to slip on the barrel without damaging the gas block. And we made sure the pins below the gas block were removed before we tried it. It will slip on the first half of the barrel until it gets right before the gas port then it will get stuck. The gas port section of the barrel is a bit thicker than the front of the barrel towards the muzzle.

For reference, this is the barrel that I bought:

If you zoom in on the 2nd pic of the barrel, you will see there is a thicker portion of the barrel before the gas block. This is where it begins to get stuck.

I will try to buy the AO gas block this week and see if that will fit.

You probably don't want to hear this. Get rid of that barrel and get something of known quality and manufacture.

Your barrel is out of spec. Don't get attached to it and skimp on your gasblock. There's nothing special about the profile at the port. It appears to be your typical .750" at the port and thinner, possibly .680", towards the muzzle. Look closely at Noveske and Centurion barrels... They wont look too different in the said areas. Have the company replace it with one that's in spec barrel or get a refund and get a known good barrel.

I wouldn't jump through any more hoops trying to make this work. You have a funky barrel. There are too many known good barrels out there. Get a known good one. Eliminate the mystery. This really doesn't have to be that hard.

Oh, and the barrel should at least have dimple for the set screws of the gas block. Better would be to have the gas block pinned to the barrel after it's installed. (It's often wise to slip your barrel nut on before getting the gas block pinned... It will spare you the unpinning process later)

At this point I might sell the barrel. I will try one more time and get the AO gas block from the LGS and see if it works.

If not, its getting sold and replaced.

There are dimples on the gas block section for the set screws. that is not the problem as I stated.

Just providing general information on attaching gas blocks. I'm really not clear on what you know and don't know.

Yes, thank you. I have built a few AR15's in a past and used lo-pro gas blocks with no issues. This is the first time I've encountered a gas block issue.

Have you contacted the barrel manufacturer? You should have them replace what you have with a barrel with a proper diameter gas block journal. It's their mistake, they should fix/replace it. Then go and sell the barrel to someone else with the knowledge that it at least has the correct diameter. I would assume you would also get more $$ for a barrel that does not have that defect.

No I have not, been busy with work the last few days.

What I will do first thing tomorrow is to go look at the AO gas block from the LGS. I need to confirm first if their barrels use gas blocks specific to their barrels, like Noveske does.

If it still does not work, I will attempt to return it by the end of the week. Its really unfortunate because I wanted to finish this build and test fire the rifle during my coming days off.
