Did very early ones not have them?
I have seen it mentioned and they still have direction with the arrow but are a black substance.

The original Bad Rabbit.
The arrow is gone off mine, not etched.
Always forget which way to go when I change something and re-zero.
Edit, I missed the m4 part somehow. Mine is a comp m2
That looks right.
If you're worried, email Aimpoint with the serial number. They will tell you if it's legit.

Yeah the UP side has a bit of the U worn off but they appear to be correct. I know that the other one I have is etched and my ML3 was etched as well but I have seen a couple of brief mentions that the early M4's weren't etched so I was curious.
Unfortunately Aimpoint isn't like Trijicon and can't tell me when it was made by the serial #. It is as if they don't keep track of them. I tried it on the last one and the answer I got when I gave them the serial # was "Well, that sounds like a real serial #".
This one also only has a 7 digit serial # with no prefix like my other one which while odd isn't anything concrete. It isn't the serial # floating around on the clones though.
I placed a call to Aimpoint this morning and left a message so I will hopefully get a good answer. I should have asked about the turrets before purchase but didn't think about it since everything else was correct.
The original Bad Rabbit.
What does the inside of the battery compartment look like? That's one area where most of the klones just ain't right?

None of the other warning signs like red and green LED, knob spins all the way round with no stops, or visible tape in the tube?
Looks good to me.
H
Nothing like that.
1) Front lens turns from red head-on to yellowish to green as it angles away.
2) Red only
3) NV settings as it is invisible until the 7th or so setting
4) Stops at setting 16 and at setting 1 when reversing
5) No tape
6) LED looks like others pictured with the 3 gold pieces offset and a blue wire leading into the LED.
7) ADDED: It also has 15-20 degrees of "play" between brightness settings.
ETA: This is where I saw the bit about the non-etched markings on the turrets being possible: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...31#post1733631
If you read down a few posts he says that he called Aimpoint and was told that it must just be old.
