I've run one on carbines in multiple mounts.
My conclusion, for my uses, is that it is best in a support/backup capacity to a fixed powered optic.
If it is run as a primary, I would recommend running it as far rearward as possible. This opens up the small window, and allows the reticule to be picked up somewhat better. Also, I wouldn't run it on anything other than an SBR/entry gun. There are better options for a general purpose weapon, than the RMR.
It doesn't get much more lightweight than the RMR. It's a huge plus, but the FOV issues/blue tint/etc. negate it, in my mind, for a standalone role.
I now look at the RMR's use on a carbine as a backup to a primary.
