Ha, like a true gun snob. You should tell me the round counts out of your 1911s, then I can tell you that a RIA would be able that and more before wearing out.

That those pistols were replaced under warranty. I figure if anyone had an issue with the replacements they would find that out when they called in for warranty work. Up front disclosure is the best policy ALWAYS.

Sounds like HKAngus wore one out pretty quick... just saying.

If you knew me, you'd know I'm not a snob of any kind. I'm just a guy who fixes stuff I find wrong. I don't own a single safe queen of any kind. I firmly believe that any brand 1911 can be made great, just that some cost more $$ to get there.

Budget 1911s are a waste of money. Buy a semi custom or buy something else entirely.

So instead of telling me about your experience, you drop someone else's name. I see a lot of that on M4C.

My 1911 has 25k through it with virtually no wear and tear to the slide, frame and barrel. I've replace small parts as they wear out but everyone who shoots a gun a lot does that. It had problems out of the box too.

I'd actually like to see your gun in person if I had the chance. The RIA slide/frame fit is loose out of the box. I'm betting this helps keep the wear to a minimum.

However, I tend to like the way a tight gun shoots, personally. I've only got ~5k through mine. It's still very tight. But the reason I didn't mention my own experience before is that it's not a "budget" gun, so the numbers are irrelevant.

I'm curious, what have you had to replace, and at what round counts?

I recently picked up a used Springfield A1 for $600 in good condition. I, personally, would much rather buy a used Springfield or Colt that I can rebuild and modify as I have the means.

Out of the box I replaced the stock slide stop with a 38 super slide stop to get better contact with magazines and the barrel link to change the timing. At about 5k rounds my front sight came off. I kept the sight but JB welded it in place. At about 15k I replaced the magazine release and ejector pin. At close to 20k the hammer broke so I replaced that as well. The magazine release and hammer were tool steel parts.

Is that any different than rebuilding or modifying a Filipino 1911?
