    Pistol Buffer Solutions

Hey all, I just put together a BCM/LMT pistol with the Sig SB15 brace (currently digging it) and I am in search of a better buffer tube solution. I currently have a RRA tube on the gun, which works ok but it doesn't use a castle nut. I've had it work it's way loose once so far, (without any real abuse I might add) and that's obviously an issue for me. I have considered putting loctite on the buffer tube, but I'm not sure how "permanent" that will be, being that this will eventually be an SBR, I would rather have my lower fully functional forever. Do any of you use this but have a good way of making it more solid? Or are there any other buffer tubes I could look into that do use a castle nut? Thanks in advance!

The RRA works well if you use a few drops of medium thread locker and a strap wrench to install.
Propane torch and about 15 seconds is all it takes to remove it.

why not just use a regular carbine tube, and just use something like this to cover it until your stamp comes back?

Clean the threads to your RRA tube and put a drop of loc-tite on it. If you need to remove it, USE A HEAT GUN, not a torch!

because a regular buffer tube wont work with a sig brace...

IMO just get the pistol receiver extension off amazon. Its 50 bucks and will work just fine. Exact same thing Phase5 tactical uses, just theirs has an etching on it. I'd ditch the buffer, spring, end plate that comes w it tho.
    Done deal.

Also, using loctite on a receiver extension is a hack ass way of doing things. I'd ignore the ones saying that. Just dump the rra crap and get a phase 5 or the one off amazon that goes on like a normal RE w castle nut and endplate and not mess up your receiver threads with red loctite.

OP, I've been planning my options for this too. I want a castle nut and have no desire to use Loctite.

At this point the Phase 5 or the Spike's buffer tube look to be the solutions. I like the KAK design in that it is OAL length and uses a ~1.8" shoulder up front to space the brace flush to the rear of the tube. However the security of the castle nut is priority which is why it is not my "no brainer".

The buffer tube kit on Amazon is by Guntech I believe(?). It has a OAL of 7.25" which still has be threaded into the receiver. The Phase 5 OAL is 7.375". The Spike's OAL is 7.75" (~7-1/8 from end plate to tube end). The KAK length from installed end plate to end is 8.45". The SB15 is ~6-7/8" isn't it?

49.95 - The Phase 5 does include the castle nut, end plate and foam cover.
47.95 - The Amazon Guntech comes as a complete tube kit (spring, buffer, nut, end plate).
44.99 - The Spike's bare tube only, reqs. nut & end plate.
32.00 - The KAK bare tube, reqs. end plate w/index tab removed.

A question about the Amazon tube, anyone know the quality of the end plate and castle nut? Is the metal soft or is it up to par to handle 38-42ftlbs (or req'd torque spec) & staking? I guess I'd ask that of all the candidates.

There are a few on amazon. I'm pretty sure all made by the same company. The castle nut is steel, but not milspec dimension. It's different than a regular castle nut appearance wise. Endplate is a cheap sling endplate. Personally I'd dump both castle nut and endplate into the parts bin and put a good nut and endplate on from BCM etc.

The carbine buffer it comes with is pretty rough, and also should go into the parts bin (or trash). Spring is black, so I replaced this also. It's much easier just to replace these 4 things and use the RE only, just to be sure everything else is g2g. Not like you will be using the buffer anyways as most likely you will be throwing a heavy buffer in anyways.
