But of course brother. I used two different dyes (one with more cherry, one walnut) and gave several coats of both, over a period of (approximately) two months.
After that, wood beeswax. I repeat the process every now and again, when I see it dry up. It brings out all that veneer and the shine is only temporary (mostly due to the beeswax).
I can't remember the name of the dyes (stain) right now, but I'll look it up. It's a light stain, nothing to worry about; it's the type usually used for light reparations of wood, but it has the ability to stain more or less deeply the wood (especially if a repeated process).

Dang, thought this would have been a sticky, well is now!
GET IN YOUR BUBBLE!
Nope, just your typical rough finish work. I love the "been there done that" look, and the gas cylinder is even Winchester too. It's full of Springfield parts, and has a couple that would be correct for my 6 digit SA including an uncut -3 op rod and a W9B bolt. I about crapped my pants when I saw the op rod.
I've thought about swapping those parts over to the 6 digit, but it just shoots sooooo good so I'm going to leave it as it is.
I haven't even cleaned it up yet. Just disassembled for pictures.
Well played, well played!

A Century build on a Lithgow receiver...
Got it cheap enough that I figured at the worst case, would dump the receiver for parts. Had a brand new Danish VAR barrel, and a mix of PB and Springfield parts.
Sent it to Shuff's, was all good in regards to being in spec, so had him do new wood and refinished. Very happy with how it turned out.
Hell yeah Brother. The Garand is immortal! An American war-winning icon!
GEEZUZZ! That op rod is worth what, $500 right there! That receiver is in GREAT shape too! That rough machining is absolutely characteristic of their production, I for one embrace that. I hear ya' on swapping the op rod to your Springfield. You probly already know, but in extreme cases the uncut rod can work a fracture into it .. may want to consider getting a cut/relived rod if you're going to shoot it a lot. Ammo Garand guy usually has them, reasonably priced. I have an uncut in my Springfield, but that's a safe treasure ... it's all original as best I and 2 others can grade, except for the gas screw. My shooter I use in CMP competition is an H&R ... really nicely machined receiver, and is a tad lighter for whatever reason.
You should pinch yourself to make sure all that is real. A "field grade????" You did awesome for any grade
Not bad, not bad! Yeah, the wood is gorgeous, like brand new. That silver parkerization looks spiffy. What are your plans for it?

I thought about going out and buying a lottery ticket, but didn't. I'm constantly amazed at how rough the Winchester finish work was, especially considering how everyone seems to want one too.
I'll be putting a relieved op rod in it, especially if I shoot it a lot (which I'm sure I will) as there's no need for me to risk cracking it.
It was only my second rifle order with the CMP, and both of the rifles I've received have been just outstanding. I'd like to pick up an HRA and an IHC one of these days just to have one of each. Every HRA I've seen has been real nice. HRA's finsh work is just exceptional IMHO.
