Miami based gunsmith shop - Not Recommended

    Fellow Gunners,

I put three regular handguns into a Miami gunsmith shop for simple refinish. No custom work, no fabrication, etc.

That was 15 months ago. The business does not answer it's phone, nor return calls, nor respond to faxes & emails.

In-person meetings are a waste of time, and full of B.S. excuses about the guns being sent away for the refinish work.

Finally, I met with one of the principle owners/gunsmiths, and personally instructed him to immediately return my firearms....still don't have them, nor any word on their status.

Note: If you have had good luck w/ them, and are a fanboy, that's fine. But that is not the case for me, as their business practices are definitely substandard.

Bottom Line: Under no circumstances would I ever use or recommend this gunsmith shop to anyone, business name as follows:

American Western Arms / AWA USA Inc.
    2280 West 80th Street, Suite 2
    Hialeah, FL 33016
    Phone: 305.828.1982
    Fax: 305.828.1066
    Information: info@awaguns.com

Simple theft. Tell them to give them to you immediately or you go to the police

What did the principle owner/gunsmith have to say when you talked to him? Hopefully you have receipts from them with serial numbers, etc... so they don't totally screw you. Did they give you an expected turn around time when you dropped them off and did they put it in writing by chance? I would maybe consider sending them a letter requesting the return of your property ASAP via certified mail to start a paper trail. If they have sent it out to another vendor for the work, they may not have them available to just return them to you without getting them back from the vendor first. Also, as above, I would probably talk to your local police department to see what they can do to help. Really sucky situation for you and I wish you the best of luck in getting your property back.

Thanks for the info. I'm working on resolving the problem.

I just wanted to put out the word to help prevent anyone else from having a similar situation.

    Update:

After 2 years (2012-1014), I finally got my guns back. Everything was mostly OK, other than *No Work* being done on them, except the CZ-75 was totally disassembled and in a ziploc bag (It was assembled & in shooting condition when I dropped it off).

I was so happy to get my guns back that I grabbed them and left as fast as I could.

Bottom Line still stands: I absolutely would not recommend this shop.

How and why did you wait 2 years?
