The benefit of an EOTech for the guys who prefer them is that it's partway a ranging reticle, has a 7m POA reference, and a larger FOV compared to Aimpoints if you view it with an NVD. Some of them like having the ability to drop it down to an NVG safe level and back to full brightnes with the touch of a button and not having to rotate a dial.

I do believe the vast majority of AR owners would benefit from an Aimpoint zeroed at 100m. That would do everything we could ever need.

EOTechs have their place. Don't discredit them because you prefer Aimpoint (which I am a huge fan of myself).

If you would like to discuss this further, I'll pay your air fare to Ft Bragg. Otherwise, save the smilies for Facebook.

    Well said.

After what's happened to this place in the past two years, we really need more posts from guys like GTF425, Nong Shim, etc.

I've seen EoTechs stop working. My one and only gave out in short order, but this was years ago. I've not had any love for EoTech for a long time. But, I'm hearing good things about the EXPS line. I'm willing to give them another try at some point.

I don't care for the auto shut off. But I could deal with it if I had to. I think auto shit off happening right at the moment when you're taking game is extremely unlikely and it was just a one time event for the OP. Obviously a terrible time for it to happen, but unlikely to ever happen again.

For me, I've left my Aimpoints on for years, so it would be something I'd need to pay attention to.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~ Paul Howe

My wife never thinks to fill the gas tank on her car until the little amber low fuel warning light turns on - - - guess I need to think about buying her a new car........

    Thanks Jon.

I have personally learned so much from the SMEs on both this site and LF and it has definitely been of benefit to me as an NCO. But seeing the way a few of the gun gamers treat these experts...it's really no surprise so many of them don't log on anymore.

I personally use and prefer Aimpoint - I am a longtime supporter of their products and they sponsor my show . If they decided to no longer sponsor it tomorrow I would not have a RDS replacement as a sponsor

The Aimpoints being made today in my opinion are the finest red dot sights ever made

Make your own decision on what to use - that way if it fails then you only have yourself to blame

Plenty of information is in place to make an informed decision

    Good luck

Go into any unit arms room and you'll find a bunch of deadlined optics, from Aimpoints to Trijicons and EOTechs. That's if you happen to be assigned to a unit that has all three on the books. Soldiers break shit. Always have, always will. No question there are varying degrees of durability, and EOTech seems to have tamed what was plaguing the 500 series. Nevertheless, it's hard to regain confidence in a product once doubt takes root. I think we can all agree that at some point the equipment we use has the potential to fail. It's why we invest time training with our back-up systems in the event shit goes south at the worst time. Murphy always has a vote.

this is a much more reasonable way to address the timer.

i think i would prefer an eotech if i was on a mission. as in i knew i had to go somewhere and do something. it gets turned on and i can leave it on until it turns off, or keep it on by fussing with it while i'm doing what i'm doing.

if i have a gun that sits around waiting for something to happen, then i'm going to go aimpoint every time.

home defense, hunting and work all have their own implications on the gear that should be used.
