    Primary Arms 1-6x w/ ACSS

I'm looking for something on a budget that I can target shoot with and also do a little hunting. I'm new to optics and ARs. Is this reticle more designed for simply hitting steel or do you think it could be precise enough to deliver the specific shots needed to drop a deer. Give that the shooter was capable of course.

At what range do you plan on shooting these deer? GH

    Realistically, around 100 yards.

What is the longest distance you will be shooting deer? If you won't be shooting past 300 yards, this scope should be just fine. This is a great optic for making quick hits, and I would feel confident making a good kill shot with it out to 200-300 yards, but if you want to go farther than that, there are probably better options. In fact, unless you are planning on some close shots, I don't think a 1-6 is a very good optic for deer hunting, but I hunt mule deer at usually long ranges with a bigger caliber so I find more magnification is best for my needs.

That being said, I just mounted one of these scopes on a 16" heavy barrel AR and I really like it so far. I zero'd at 100 yards with M855 and was shooting around 1.5 MOA 5 shot groups with it from a bench. It's a great variable defensive optic, and could be definitely used for hunting, but wouldn't be my first choice for hunting.

Primary arms has a 4-14x44 FFP Mil/Mil scope that would probably be better for deer hunting in my opinion. I think they usually cost about $230. Here is a link http://www.primaryarms.com/Primary-A...pa4-14xffp.htm

It's a fairly decent reticle if you are ok with a BDC.
Having used similar reticles with similar magnification range I would probably feel comfortable with 6" targets at 200 meters.
Might take some time to get the BDC nailed down though.

ETA: not sure that I would want to be chancing 5.56 on deer at anything past that.

    Thanks all.
I'm leaning towards the 1-6 but also tossing around the idea of a vortex crossfire 4-12x40 scope with the V-Brite illuminated crosshairs on a Wilson combat mount.

No. In regards to deer hunting I wont be shooting further than 100yards +/- 25 yards

I would be happy with the reticle and magnification range for that distance.
I can't offer any help on the actual optic though, sub $800 low powered variables tend to leave much to be desired in any of a few areas.

    Best of luck.

For the OP's stated use, I would recommend a Weaver V-3. Used one for a few seasons but I no longer hunt.
