Next step-up, that I can find, is a Sightron SIII 1-7x at $800, hard to draw a comparison there with the big price difference (3x the price are you really getting 3x the scope?); then it's too the moon from there on price, or drop-back to 1-4x to get back into the sub $500 range. Clue me in if I'm missing something here.
Below is a 1-6x24 that you can get on Amazon Prime for $128. Its called the Firefield:

I am not sure I would chance anything less than the PA 1-6.

I saw the Firefield scope, but was trying to stay away from trouble like that (it's got several bad reviews).

Still wonder why Trijicon doesn't put out the TR24 not only with the triangle, but also with the chevron, and horse shoe reticle. Put a bdc in place of the thick bottom posts.
Seems like they would be hot sellers.
I've had the TR24 and for my uses I liked the triangle, but the chevron or horse shoe would be an upgrade to me.

I should have read your post again. You said in the range of $250. There is no other 1-6 in that range that I have seen.

I lurk on Snipers Hide and there is a new 1-6x coming out with a reticle designed by a member there named BigJimFish. He says it is a $600 scope in this review:

I'm waiting for those 1-6x's to get back in stock...

I just put one of their 1-4's on my AR, for the low low price its pretty damn good. Only thing I added was a cat tail, just need to sight it in. Its a small reticle, but that should make for more pin point shots
