    Mossberg bead sight issue

Hello everyone, just wanted to pick the brains of some members on here. I was installing my new Magpul furniture on my Mossberg 500 last night, and I discovered I was unable to have the barrel sit correctly due to the Heat shield. So, I set out to remove my heat shield. I really struggled not having the correct tools, and it was a major pain to remove because of the bead sight on the front. In removal of the heat shield I accidentally sheered my bead sight off. Now, I realize most aftermarket sights affix themselves on your current bead sight, but what options do I have for a front sight knowing the bead is sheered? It can be tritium (I really like the XS big dots) I just want to know what options I have to remedy this. Thanks everyone in advance.

Remove what is left of the old bead and install a new one. GH

I think some may be press fit and some threaded. My cheat sheet says that they are 5 x40 size.

If it was press fit you would need a 5x40 tap - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/912...ap-5-40-thread

This would for a front sight - http://swfa.com/Truglo-Fat-Bead-Wing...ht-P58975.aspx

    As would this - http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-par...prod19914.aspx

    Or this - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/851...00-shank-ivory

    Or even this - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/851...00-shank-ivory

And the least expensive - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/428...rg-500-590-695

Hope this is of some help.

That was exactly the kind of help I was looking for here. I will make good use of this. I'm very inexperienced when it comes to most things shotguns and I was livid when I accidentally sheered that damn thing.

You could forget the bead altogether and get one of those Hi-Viz fiber optic clamp on style sights then just glue it down over the spot with the missing bead. I did that for one of my old 870 barrels and it worked fine. $15... better than a bead.. problem solved.

Use caution when using the tap - if you need to put threads in, make sure the barrel is oriented correctly and the tap is perfectly straight:

The other problem that I didn't mention is that the threaded shaft of the bead may protrude into the bore. This has to be filed down smooth with the inside of the barrel.

If you have a gunsmith near you, it would probably be about $20.00 to put a simple bead back on it.

I didn't realize the bead was going to be an issue until I tried to remove the heat shield. Everything else went smoothly. Act like you've never broke something.
