    Glock 30S Range Report

I picked up a Glock 30S about a month ago. Sent it off immediately to Smyrna to get Night Sights installed, so I wasn't able to shoot it much before sending it off.

A little background: I own 8 Glocks. I believe it is the single, best pistol platform out there. I shoot competition with my Glock 34, 35, and 24. I carried my 26, 20 and 22. The easiest gun I have to shoot is the 24, with brass magwell and grip plug, even my wife likes it.

I got my 30S back yesterday, and had to take it to the range today. I have shot Glock 30's, 30SF's, 29's, 26s, 27s, but holding the 30S in my hand felt infinitely better; it felt, as near as makes no difference, like a Glock 19 in my hands. It fit like a glove. I can't say that about other subcompact Glocks. During shooting, I never felt like I was fighting the gun, I never felt like my grip was being compromised. I did try some 230gr +P and that definitely shook the hand a little, but I was still able to maintain a firm grip; it was the same feeling about you've been using a palm sander for a while, a tingling in the hands.

I had no failures of any kind after 300 rounds.

The most astounding thing about the Glock 30S is the accuracy. I am not sure whether it is the easy of shooting/fit in the hand, or if it is the inherent mechanical accuracy of the gun, but between 10-15 yards it is a ragged hole shooter, even at reasonable speed. Follow up shots are fast, double taps are less effort than my Glock 20.

This gun has absolutely replaced my Glock 26, which I will strongly consider selling.

On the down side, my wife hates shooting the 30S. She says the recoil too unpleasant, but I don't really notice.

The target on the right is at 10 yards, the target on the left is 15. Each target has approximately 150 rounds of .45 through it.

I got too tired loading 10 round magazines at round 300, so I just didn't bother shooting the last five on the second target. My thumbs are hurting ...

Nice shooting. I'm still debating getting a 26 or a Shield. Can't afford another caliber, especially .45.

I drank the Glock cool-aid a long time ago, but my buddy bought a Shield and I really like it. On its own merits, it really stands up as a solid pistol. I am just too invested in Glock.

The Glock 26 definitely doesn't get my motor revving like this Glock 30S. It is probably my least fun Glock to shoot, but I love it. After surgery, I stuck my Glock 26 in my shoulder sling for two months.

Can't think of a reason that would cause me to replace my 26 with a 30S but different strokes for different folks.

I don't think I would sell the 26; there are too many times I need something small, even pocketable, but on the whole, the 30S will become my regular CCW. It goes back to the whole 26 vs. 19--different tools for different situations.

Thanks for the review. I will definitely be adding a 30S to the collection.

I'd agree if caliber is not a concern. However, the G30S appears to be an attractive option for people looking for a very compact and reliable 45 caliber platform. In fact, I can't think of a smaller 45 that I'd trust with my life since it is smaller than a HK45c or M&P45c.
