Got a chance to run the AFAB a little bit this past weekend. It was very cold so I didn't stay too long, but my initial impression is very positive. Installed the AFAB on a 16" BCM LW middy and shot it next to a 14.5" BCM LW middy equipped with a Griffin Flashcomp - I found the AFAB to be less concussive at the shooter's position. Recoil impulse felt similar although I really didn't put enough rounds through the guns to form a solid opinion.

I totally agree with you on your findings, I just got back from the range. I only put 200 rounds down the pipe, took my son along with me and let him shoot it as well so I could observe muzzle flip.
Muzzle flip was near to zero, I was using a 3X9 power scope and was able to see my hits through it on 9 power. Set up some orange clays on the backstop and watched them explode through the optic.
Felt recoil was not that much different, but maybe just a little bit less felt. This rifle has been tuned to give very little recoil before the addition of the AFAB. It was only slightly louder than the A2 that was on it, but it is a break, and I have heard way worse than this one. All in all I am happy with it, good value for the money, defiantly cheaper than a KAC. And I bet the KAC performs no better.
At this point I will give it a 4 out of 5 stars, only because it needs more testing. But my first impression is good, you will not be disappointed with this muzzle devise. By the way all the ammo was SS-109 and XM-855, all 62 grain, no wimpy .223 stuff today.

Thanks for the update. If you don't mind can you keep this thread updated like the other posters as your round count goes up?

Are you comparing it to the Flashcomp also or just the A2? I am only curious as he compared AFAB and Falshcomp and you said you agreed

I got my hands on a Flashcomp but didn't get a chance to shoot it. Does it feel a bit more robust or tougher than the AFAB in design to anyone else or am I just imagining.

Do you mean it was a little softer than a standard A2? How is your gun tuned? (A5? H2? 14.5" middy? All of the above?)
    Thanks!

ETA: DMV--> the new flash-comp is .002 narrower, .025" shorter and .2 ounces lighter than the AFAB. I've only held the old one, but it feels almost the same to me...other than shape. I do wonder whether those little squares of metal will hold up over the life of a barrel...it's probably not as robust as a much simpler port brake with prongs, but as long as it holds up.

ALSO, Someone mentioned conditioning/soaking the AFAB in FireClean...that way VERY little unburnt powder will stick to it, and you won't get as many of the burn-off flashes shooting at night.

I was comparing it to an A2, But I am only comparing sound and percussion levels. This break is not that bad on the sound level compared to most breaks that actually work.

And yes more updates will follow.

Rifle has an adjustable gas block with a Guntech buffer that is in between the weight of an "H" and "H2" buffer in weight, similar to the Spikes T-2 buffer weight without the tungsten powder. And a Spinco white spring. And yes it is a Middy. Gun is a pretty smooth shooter, I have neck and shoulder issues and because of it I am recoil sensitive.

I didn't even know that the GA Flash Comp had a new rev. It looks like they only changed the prongs though. My barrel and AFAB is supposed to back from Rainier Arms Thursday. Hopefully will get a chance to try it out in the next couple of weeks.

MrGunsnGear has posted his YT video review of the PA/AFAB Mini.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiGKpB1Ld0Q

Someone had also asked about crush washers for installation. Here is what PA has to say,
This compensator is designed to fit .223 caliber (5.56mm) AR-15/M16/M4 style rifles with 1/2-28 muzzle threads.
Accu-Washer™ Muzzle Alignment System recommended for installation to achieve best performance (not included).
Caution: Do not use crush washers with this product.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you,
but it's still on my list.

Solid review, as always. However, I wish he would have had a 16" barrel with an A2 on it during the flash test.

Every 16" A2's barrel I shoot with 55gr Wolf or Tula looks exactly like that...with tons of flash....so we need another "apple" to make it apples to apples for the flash signature. All in all, another great review.

I also like how you can see that the comp is totally neutral (matching my findings) and you can see the effect of the BCG/buffer returning to battery causing some muzzle dip in the slow mo.

Example of a comparison using same ammo and same camera (though, admittedly less production quality than Plouffedaddy):

Yep - looked pretty neutral. The muzzle dip was long after the initial blast.

Still haven't had the chance to get mine out to range dangit. Wife's got me on lockdown with the new baby and it's been a nonstop snowy, muddy mess here.

    Excuses.

Interesting there's a longer version coming out. Wonder how much that bad boy will weigh? I put this on my 10.5 for now, but I have a feeling I may get the longer one and do some back to back testing with it.
