    M&P Apex Parts

I recently picked up a M&P 9FS and so far I really like it. I have a Glock 19 in both Gen3 and Gen4 and a G26 and I have decided to give the M&P line a shot as my training class gun with the thoughts of picking up a M&P45C and the 9C if things keep looking good. The pistol has a fired case date 11/22/13 and has the latest updates. The trigger is a little gritty and the break is solid, probably around 7 pounds or so. I've dry fired it several hundred times and have only fired 102 rounds thru it. Accuracy was good but I have only shot it out to 15 yards. I hear great things about Apex triggers for these guns and see several different options listed.

For some reason I am getting script errors when I try to navigate their web page and I am unable to read the differences in parts and kits. I see others mention whole kits and some different springs and sears. Can someone school me on the different options and what I could expect from each. Is there a thread already that breaks down the different items?

    Thank you,

    KV

If you arent having any issues with the gun, I'd hold off on changing anything out unless it becomes needed after more time on the gun.

I agree. I don't plan to change anything just yet, actually I plan to put at least 500 rounds thru it and see if the trigger will smooth out some. I was just hoping to read up on what the different kits and parts offer as far as changes to the trigger characteristics are concerned. If I can simply change a sear or a spring to lighten the break a bit without buying a whole kit I'd be interested, assuming I feel it is necessary after breaking it in.

If you JUST want to remove the grit, get the Ultimate Striker Block kit, (USB).

If you want to lighten the trigger and shorten travel for carry (DCAEK), or competition (Comp AEK), get those kits instead of the USB, they include it.

If you want to take out the extra pre-travel and over-travel of the trigger and have a real smooth 4lb (or 5.5) competition trigger, get the FSS kit.

Thank you very much. That is what I was looking for.

I would not recommend the FSS without an external safety for carry.

I had a similar post asking the difference between the options available. I am sure you can find it if you search.

I ended up with the FSS trigger kit and installed it with the 4# spring. I can't say enough good things about it. The trigger feels awesome, break is crisp and the reset is very noticeable. Maybe its a poor comparison but it seems like my SSA or SSA-E AR triggers.

I can't give you a exact increase in accuracy figure but I can give you anecdotal evidence; My father is a very novice shooter. He purchased the M&P9 FS first and I like it so much that I got one as well. His remains factory while I installed the FSS Trigger kit. We were at the range together and he was having problems keeping a close group at 10 yards, he was also hitting the paper low and to the left. I gave him my M&P and though his group was only slightly smaller, it was not dead center and not low/left. I think the APEX parts are worth every penny.

I installed the DCAEK in both my 9FS and 45. My 9FS had probably 1500 rnds through it and the trigger wasn't absolutely terrible to begin with, so the improvement was marginal, although it definitely was an improvement. My 45 had the worst trigger I've ever felt. It was like trying to break a plastic tab off of something every time you pulled the trigger. Absolutely HORRIBLE. I'd guess it was easily a 10lb pull with a break about as crisp as crushed glass. I installed the DCAEK and it was an entirely new pistol. 100% improvement and right at the 5-5.5 rated pull.

Accuracy gains were slightly improved on the 9 and night and day on the 45. The 45 prints 2-3" groups at 25 rested.

I have no experience with the FSS or RAM, although I may try a RAM out in the future.

I have a FS in 40SW with no thumb safety, which is the one thing I would change about it. I installed the DCAEK and a RAM in my pistol. The trigger for a carry gun is phenomenal. The reset with the RAM is like that on a Glock, but it is noticeably weaker to me. I am used to a LEM trigger in a P2000 for work, so this setup honestly feels hundred times better.

Good to know. My M&P 45 I picked up a couple weeks ago is my 3rd M&P, and the trigger is atrocious. I bought a DCAEK from ineedmoregear.com the other day and am anxiously awaiting it to take care of this 10# gravel like trigger.

I started with a USB in my 9 Pro 5", but then went to the FSS. It shot pretty well with just the USB but wow does the FSS make it a match gun.

I would NOT install the FSS in a carry gun. To me this only belongs in a competition gun or range toy.
