Thank you, Phreakish. But I was asking about the differences in performance that exist between BCM's awaited BFH ELW barrels and BCM's "normal" BFH LW barrels. Both cold hammer forged versions (ELW vs LW). Not the differences between CHF and button. Basically, what benefit is the ELW in performance over the normal BFH LW barrel? Thanks!

Have weight comparisons been listed anywhere between 16" barrels in gov profile, LW, and the ELW (non-fluted)?

Straight weight comparison doesn't give you the full story in my opinion.... unless you're strictly buying based on ounces. The shape of an ELW feels much lighter than it's nominal weight.

Understood. Ounces are not my concern. I was wondering how much material was redistributed. It appears to offer better performance (stiffness, thermal management, etc.) than the government profile while being a little lighter.

When you get an ELW barrel and run it for a day, you'll be scratching your head and wondering WTF they were smoking with the Gov profile.

I'm wondering why nobody came out with these barrels 10+ years ago.

A tapered rifle barrel ain't exactly innovation in 2014.

Kudos for not building something retarded though...

Has BCM ever offered the SS410 barrels in a different profile or with fluting? Just curious.

I personally love the SS410 barrel uppers. I know people are obsessed about weight, but the KMR really offsets the extra weight of the SS barrel.

You end up with a ridiculously accurate, reasonably light Recce setup. My 12 year old son shot it standing offhand all afternoon today and didn't get tired of carrying it.

Don't fear the SS. Embrace it.

Yes, I'd like to see BCM's take on an SS barrel with a medium contour, like Rainier Arms did with their MEDCON.

Honestly, I'm never again buying a barrel with that stupid government profile. BCM, Sionics, and Rainier lead the way!

I have always wondered that after I began to study AR's more. I sold my first upper which was a Gov't profile, I do not plan on ever getting one again.

It is from the construction of underground FEMA camps. I can't say more because there a guy parked in front of house in an AMC Pacer. He is acting like he talking on the phone, but I know better.

I have to sign off now & put my laptop in the microwave.
