    Name this mystery magazine.

I'm working at a large Southern California military installation and came across 2 cans full of these. Being the gun dweeb I am, I took a gander and realized I have no idea what they're for.

They're single stack, no markings, not rock-in, looks to be for a rimmed cartridge, with what looks like a 5 rd capacity.

Case is a .308 loosie from last weekend.

It looks like a magazine for a .338 lapua mag or .408 CT EDM arms Windrunner, depending on length. If the command wants to donate them as excess property to another Federal agency I could put them to good use.

Yeah, the SMAW has a semi-automatic spotting rifle on the right hand side of the launcher tube. I was an 0331 so I am alittle rusty but if I remember correctly each rocket tube also had a loaded spotting magazine in the end cap. The A-Gunner would load the rocket and the spotting mag, the Gunner would fire spotting rounds until he was getting steel on steel impacts, A-Gunner checks the back blast area, and then the Gunner fires the rocket.

    Name this mystery magazine.

    Thanks.

That spotting bullet is strange as hell. 7.62x51 blown out to 9mm with a 22hornet blank for a propellant.

Never had any luck actually getting spotting rounds issued, lol. Good thing we only shot rockets at big targets when I used that damn thing. Interesting find, I bet I can name that large installation.......

You are 100% right, I was a SMAW gunner in the Marines from 2003-2007. The spotting round's ballistics match the rocket so as long as your spotting rifle is sighted in properly with the rocket where your spotting rounds hit your rocket will hit.
