    (d) the military has been running PRI Gen I/II free-float rubes, KAC FF-RAS rails, and Daniel Defense M4 rails on their Mk 12s for over a decade now, and none of these systems allow for the bottom rail to be removed. So why do they need that now?
That's news to me, not trying to call you out but do you have a source for this? I am well aware of the use of the PRI and KAC rail. It's cool they're using something more advanced like the DD M4 rail with the MK12s.

The Mk18 SBRs SOCOM (at least Regiment and the SEALs) uses are DD, I believe thats what he is talking about. I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to long guns though.

He specifically mentions the DD M4, which is a different rail from the DD RIS-II. I've owned an SBR MK18 MOD0 clone for about 5 years, and I had it configured as a MOD 1 with a DD RIS-II MK18 rail with a Taupe KAC 99051 for about 6 months, but sold it off. The M4 length (12.5 inch) RIS-II is used with the SOPMOD M4A1, but not on the MK12. To the best of my knowledge the issued SPR and MK12 used either a PRI free float tube or a rifle length KAC RAS free float.

Consider you audience. I like to think I know my ass from my elbow when it comes to ARs.

Realize here that I'm talking about the original Daniel Defense M4 rail here... specifically, this one:

    Attachment 25999

It was a small run, but the Army used it for their DMRs...
