Digging up an old thread here.

What is the consensus of the G2L for duty/general use? I use a G2 incandescent now. My only complaint is the cost per hour to run the unit due to battery prices. At best, from surefire before shipping, its $3.50 an hour. Retail battery costs can run 12-20 an hour.

What about drop in units? Where are we with reliability etc.? Thanks.

You can purchase the P60L drop in to convert your G2 to a G2L and still have typical Surefire reliability. I bet G and R Tactical has them (or can get them or you).

Get a Malkoff drop in and use rechargeables. I'm not sure the Surefire P60L will allow the use of rechargeables, so that might not be a good idea (plus it isn't as good as anything made by Malkoff anyway.)

Even a crappy low end LED drop in will be better than an incan. But Malkoffs are the best and worth every penny. Go to a flashlight forum and you will see they are generally considered the best drop in available.

Personally, I'd but a G2L before I bought a P60L upgrade. The cost is pretty close between the two.

If I was going to upgrade a Surefire, I'd go with a Malkoff as they're the best thing going right now. Also, the price on the Malkoff isn't much more than the P60L.

You might want to take a look at Tactical Night Vision's drop in Module for the Sureifire line. We do not like saying "the best thing going", but they are pretty much field proofed with the likes of Pat Rogers performing an endurance test of 20,000 rounds down range with 3 different LWRC rifles with no lamp failures to speak of to say the least. Refer to the March issue of SWAT magazine. You cannot ask for much better than this. Hope this helps.

I picked up a G2L today for 65+tax, @ Lowe's of all places. This is my first surefire and led flashlight, so my experience is limited. It will do what I need it for and then some.
