- The new stock has a bigger cheek weld surface than the MOE
- It comes with a QD socket built in to both sides.
- It comes with two different butt pads.
- The butt pad is curved to help get the gun quickly into position, similar to the VLTOR iMod.
- The latch has small wings on it to make it easy to lift it for removal and installation, rather than needing a tool.
All improved functionality over the MOE.
Colt "sticks to what works" and people complain that they are behind the times. Daniel Defense has always worked to bring improved, well designed and functional products to market. This furniture accomplishes that without looking like everything else out there. I admit I didn't like the looks at all, at first. But I've seen how well it functions and is made, and now the looks have grown on me. In my opinion, it looks much better than other popular stocks, e.g.: VLTOR imod, ACS, Troy, Larue, Rogers.
This DD stock offers a similar cheek weld and QD socket to the B5 bravo, but seemed a little tighter. The Bravos I've tried have all been a little too loose for me.
I don't think stocks are nothing more than aesthetic upgrades. I choose my stocks based on the build type and or application. I look at cheek weld, LOP and weight.
A UBR might be good for an SPR but it's not ideal for a SBR. A MOE might be ideal for a SBR but not so much on a RECCE build.
After I've narrowed my choices down to 2 or 3 stocks that would fit my application, I then go for aesthetics. It's okay to choose AR parts based on aesthetics but I never sacrifice function for form.
It's Cerakoted. And no, it's not earth shattering. But it looks good(the RIS rail color is pretty universally liked), is a functional color (blends in to a wide range of environments and will look good with different accessory colors), and is unique to Daniel Defense (it's their exclusive color, and differentiates their guns from the rest of the market.
That is what Daniel Defense does well, historically. (e.g.: their rails, sights, QD receiver endplate, flash hider, front sight base, etc.)
They did, and that was my initial reaction. But it doesn't seem to pull the beard when I shoulder it...more like grippy neoprene than a grippy basketball. I haven't shot it yet, but the range day reviews were positive, even from guys with beards. I'll get to shoot it next week.
Even my MOE stock and SOPMODs pull out some of my beard hairs from time to time.
