I'm keeping and open mind until I try that stock personally. Sometimes these manufacturers make a gun that as a whole is better than the sum of its parts.

I was at my primary LGS today and came across a DD M4V5 LW in some kind of factory coyote brown color with the new furniture. I could see the color as tactically useful in rural settings, especially here in AZ where there is a LOT of open space. Spray some OD and/or FDE and it would break up the profile even more. However, in reality most shooters, including me and almost everyone I know except the fed agent who hunts backpacking drug smugglers for a living, would not benefit from it in any manner other than for the cool factor. Price was a shade over $100 than an identical black variant.
I found the stock effective. It has very slightly flared sides, kind of like a very subtle SOPMOD. Good cheek weld and the rubber surface is not tacky but feels good. I did not find my cheek slid like on most polymer AR stocks. The new pistol grip is a no go for me. The angle is good but it is small in circumference. I am an average sized guy so it's not like some ape was handling it. A semi-trained monkey maybe, but not an ape. I ended up with too much trigger finger in the guard and had to bend my knuckle more than usual. The tactile surface was very good however. I would change out the grip if it were mine, but would also have to add my own trigger guard and retaining pin. That kind of sucks. Just adds to the out of pocket expenses. Minor but a pain.
I did not care for the looks in the photos, but in person it is not as bad in real life as I thought it would be. Still... it looks like a Daniel Defense/Starks Industries collaboration. It certainly stood out against all the other AR's on the rack, which appears to be have been the intent by DD.

I'm a big DD fan and I like the brownish color, but it looks like the marketing department took too much LSD before they approved the styling. Sorry.
I've already stated that I did NOT like the new furniture until I shot it. It grew on me and now I really like it. The response from customers in the store has been overwhelmingly positive. I honesty expected more of a mixed response.

That's what they call marketing, you put the chrome wheels on, or turn up the brightness on the TVs, or make the can opener look swoopy and high tech. You know, curb appeal. Something to differentiate your product from the others... Thankfully DD also makes a good rifle so its not like putting lipstick on a pig or anything.
