I see a lot of similarity in the Sharps carrier and Azimuth carrier.

    Maybe because they're partners?

interesting, the azimuth carrier is 8620 and supposed to be heavier than a typical FA variant. ranger proof sells them, but they want the same price as src and it's not s7. too bad the src carrier was lightened, i am a bit skeptical of the flat sides, but am no engineer.

Partner, like Azimuth is with ranger tough rifles(I think thats the company).

Anyways I do have a few issues with what was said in that video. First of all rotational caming is limited by the carrier key and upper receiver. It is generally minimal and I have never seen any corrolation to issues as far as that goes. Secondly this is not an op rod driven rifle, there is no tilting of the carrier from the gases interaction with the gas key, as the gas key only funnels gas into the expansion chamber. There is no movement of the carrier while gas is funneling through the gas key, and the carrier only begins to move once gas has filled and begun expanding in the chamber. Also the flats on the carrier are a cost cutting measure, simple as that.

Now it does have some benifits that could prove to be advantageous. The enlarged rails, sand cuts, the enlarged rear offers a better more solid fit into the upper. These could be an advantage that only time will show. But the video was just dumb.

People I know who have shot the Azimuth carriers (they make them for RangerProof, Fathom Arms, and a host of others) do say that the rifle feels "smoother".

That is a point I have a hard time believing. Could shooters tell the difference and ID the BCGs in a blind test? I would like to see that.

And really, I'm not sure any of my ARs need to be smoother. They suit me OK as is. Every time I think about an A5 for my 18" SPR(ish), I come back from the range after shooting it from 200-500 with a carbine RE and buffer and ask myself why change? It runs fine. I probably will someday, but only because I need to build a new lower for the LMT I robbed the SPR lower from. I'll put the current carbine RE on the new build and get the VLTOR for the 18" gun.

I'll only make the change because I'm building anyway, not because "damn I like this SPR, but I wish it was just a bit smoother".

The A5 has other benefits not pertaining to smoothness, but those are for another topic.

.... and that is another reason I would try it, once I get around to building again. My point is the 18" runs real good right now and I don't feel like I need to change anything.

Getting back to BCGs, I have a DD in the 18" and I am pleased with how it performs.
