    TROY MCS

Looking for feedback from M14/M1A owners that are using the Troy MCS set up. I currently have a SOCOM II rifle w/o the extended rail set up. I am not all that happy with it and am looking to get the Troy MCS.

    1. How sturdy is the design and what are its' downfalls?

    2. Will a rear BUIS ( like the Troy ones' that are advertised) line up with the original front sight or does it have to come off as well?

    3. What combination of Buttstock, buffer and spring appear to work the best?

Any feedback or info is appreciated.

I have gone through 5 LAW483 M14 MCS TROY stocks and worked with Steve Troy on one of the prototypes with a SOCOM installed. LINK

They are solid and heavy - the can end up heavier than a SAGE EBR.

You don't have to remove the original front sight, but you give up the original M14 sights when you use the MCS.

I like the standard E2, the EMOD and LMT SOPMOD butt stocks on a Mil spec buffer tube - no spring or buffer needed.

Here are two pictures of my MK14 SEI Mod 1 in the M14 MCS and in the SAGE Mod 1 stock.

IMO, the M14 MCS is what you want if you plan to run optics with variable magnification.
If you want to shoot irons or run forward mounted red dot/Scout optics there are better options.

    +1 For Troy

I'm fairly certain that I cannot think of a better enhancement - especially for a SOCOM-16 than a Troy MCS. When making my decision, I weighed the options of a Vltor, Sage and Troy. The Troy just made sense to me. Stock and optics all aligned with the barrel, BUIS are sublime and the utility and especially the accuracy of the rifle improved beyond everything I expected. It truly takes the M1A/M14 to an entirely new level...

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have figured a buffer and spring weren't necessary, duh.

My SOCOM II is fine with an Eotech, but since I got a killer deal on a Leupold MR/T I couldn't resist. In my current configuration mounting it is just a PITA. Part of my decision in buying it in its' current configuration is the fact the I live in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. Since I will be moving in the very near future this is no longer an issue.

So it looks as if the Troy MCS is the way I am going to go because I can still run both optics.

Can I assume that the Troy sights (in question) are specifically designed to be used with the 7,62 round on this set up?

    Thumbs up

The TROY sights are battle sights, you can use them on any flat top and that is what
the MCS turns the M14 into - a flat top that can use just about any AR/M4 accessory.
    The MCS is a winner.

Thank God you're leaving Cali - the grip options for your rifle just got much better. I'm running a stock A2 on my MCS - the photo shown is old, (the day I got it) and not representative of the rifle in it's current form - I need to get busy and shoot some current pics. Here's what I'm running:

A2 stock (been kicking around a Vltor A2 Clubfoot)
    A2 grip
    KAC VG
    Troy BUIS
    Trijicon Tripower
    LaRue LT-150
    Troy Rear Sling Mount
Uncle Mike's QD up front (the Troy has a QD feature)
    Vickers 2-point
Spec-Ops Ready Fire Mode stock pouch

Thanks for the info guys. I am probably going to go with this option. Then I can configure my rifle as I see fit. Put the Leupy on, my Raptor bipod and I am GTG. Or throw the Eotech on and the Surefire M900 and have CQB type weapon. I will probably get the Vltor stock since I have it on my AR and I like it.

    Mark,

I am awaiting word anyday from my agent that the deal went through. The suck part is my wife has to do the move since I can't go home until September. Good thing is that Phoenix isn't that far away.

Sounds like you have a good plan and will wind up with a great rifle! The beauty of the Troy is the multitude of options you have for optics, lights, grips, lasers, etc. Want to shoot irons? Magnified optics? Red dot? NV? Throw a lever.

I wish I was closer man, I'd put a crew together and help her move. Take care out there!

    Mark,

Thanks much for the insight and again for the thought of the move. We'll make it work as we have over the last few years of me travelling the globe. Take care.

Follow up question concering the Troy BUIS for the Troy MCS. Are these sights made specifically for the M14? I guess what I am getting at is the aperature/ front sight post specifically designed to work with this set up or can other BUIS's be used?
