Burris 1-5x24 XTR II, which reticle?

I am going to purchase a couple of Burris 1-5x24 XTR II's. One will go my 20" Colt AR15A2 Government Model in an ARMS #2 mount with ARMS #21 rings. The second on will go on my son's Colt 6920 M4 Carbine in a LaRue LT-104 mount. I am trying to decide which reticle to go with, the XTR II Ballistic 5.56 Gen 3 reticle or the XTR II Ballistic CQ Mil reticle. These are general purpose rifles for home defense, 3 gun matches, coyote hunting and plinking. What do you recommend and why. Thanks.

The CQ mil, simply because a Ballistic reticule is only designed for a average load and rifle. Mils would be more practical for me at least

Wouldn't the ballistic reticle be more practical on this type of scope using holdovers in a defensive role? Seems like the mil reticle would make more since in longer range where there is plenty of time to dial?

In a defensive role I would just use the center dot and horse shoe portion of the reticle. I am not military or law enforcement, so the chances of having to use hold overs in a defensive situation are very slim. Now 3 gun matches and coyote hunting will provide an opertunity for longer range shooting.

I own the Gen 1 with the ballistic reticle and am looking to replace it with something mil-based (it lives on my 16'' 3 gun rifle). I shoot Black Hills Mk 262 for my precision load, and the holdovers on the BDC are calibrated for M193 out of a 20'' barrel, so I have had to get creative with my zeroing scheme to bring the hash marks in line with the trajectory.

I am starting to lean towards the Ballistic QC Mil reticle because of the versatility.

Bullet drop reticles hardly ever match the exact ballistics of your load in your rifle. But if you know those, you can use a ballistic calculator to determine the impact distance for each mil or moa hash in a mildot or moa-hash reticle. I'd get the CQ-mil.

What do you do for cheek weld on the A2 with the height of the handle, mount and rings? Do you have an adjustable comb? GH

Right now just use a low check weld. That combination is fairly low for a carry handle mount, about a 3/4" rise above the normal line of sight. I do have an old Cheeroke Arms cheek piece that I can install. It is like the one Colt put on the Delta HBAR, without the Delta markings.
