It isn't the only reason but it does sway my decision since both rails will accomplish what I need them to and I'm not sacrificing quality. They are both good rails and I've been waffling between them anyways. Gives me a good reason to try out a keymod rail while I'm at it.

I want a solidly built rail that is anodized tan. I liked the tan RIS II FSP on my 14.5 so I wanted a similar one for an SBR. Now they have taken the rail I wanted off the market so I will spend my money on a different one. Not really that hard to comprehend.

Yes I know I can spray paint them and have done so on all my AR's before but that's not the point. The point is that I want a tan rail in case I don't feel like painting my SBR. Why should I pay 350 bucks for one I don't want and then paint it when there are other options that actually meet my requirements out of the box?

IMHO, Daniel Defense has gone off the deep end.

    1. Their commercial SBR barrels have larger gas ports than the MIL barrels. This has made setting up a MK18 or 11.5" style gun problematic. I have personal experience with two of their barrels and I am not satisfied. They are overgassed when running full power 5.56 ammo with a silencer. I have to go all the way to an H3 buffer and they still run hard. Colt 11.5 933 and 10.3" barrels do not have this problem. This is a huge wasted opportunity on their part as they could offer real MIL spec shorty barrels with the correct factory pinned gas block so people don't have to destroy a Colt barrel or come up with some other pieced together solution.

    2. Failure to release a 14.5" LW SBR basic gun. Then they decide to make the LW barrels 0.75" at the gas block. Another wasted opportunity since Colt can't seem to make this gun.

    3. Their fugly furniture released this year. That stock takes up too much goddamn space. We didn't need another open air triangle stock. What we need is a simple CAR style stock with modern upgrades similar to what LWRC makes now.

    4. Dropping the tan RIS 2 from the commercial product line.

You know, considering the majority of customers who buy their barrels use silencers.

For me I'm glad their 10.3 gas port is a little bigger. It allows me to use my 10.3 barrel in -30f weather without having to slap a boat anchor on the end of it. Also works great as I can feed it crap all day long for those times it really doesn't matter what I'm shooting. Such as piling rounds into cardboard targets for taining purposes. Din't know why you even mentioned 11.5 barrels and Colt. If you want a smaller port just get a BCM 11.5. If you must have a 10.5 LMT does fine as well. There is more options than just Colt you know. Really not sure what your feathers are ruffled about. Just buy from another brand. Simple.

Their new furnature is fine. May not look the best but nothing wrong with it. DD is trying to catch the eyes of the broader consumer market as well. Why do you think they wanted their ad during the superbowl. Sure wasn't to catch silencer owning, sbr loving tactical peoples eyes, as most of those are already well aware of DD to begin with. You didn't see people complaining about SW MP's curvy features, or all these other weird looking pistol addons compared to the simplicity of Glocks and their very rigid patterns. Know it's not the same, but you get what I'm saying.

Not really personally worried about the lack of anodized DD rails as cerakoting has become so common you can get prett much anything you want now adays.

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I have a M4A1 in their FDE and didn't think I'd like it but it's grown on me. I was considering picking one up for an SBR. I guess that won't happen anytime soon

DD MK18 RIS II FDE Gone!

Ok I'm in to piss a few ppl off, I have a RIS II in DD FDE that I got with my MK18 upper and...wait for it....I'm about to cerakote it...A DIFFERENT COLOR.

    Bam!

They'll still offer the rail, and if I'm not mistaken Duracoat makes A DD FDE that matches

I've seen ppl paint over they're cerakote with Duracoat, that's one way to get the color back. You can paint over stuff, This is a piece of information I learned early on in life with finger paint.

Paint is a magical tool...(please note the sarcasm)

I can't buy another brand. No other brand offers a pinned USGI gas block from the factory.

And as far as -30F. A real MK18 or Colt 933 is plenty capable of operating at -30F.

Not every gun owner is an idiot that requires a larger than normal gas post to make up for the lowest common denominator. Some of us know how to build guns and know the proper ammo buffer combo that is required for functioning.

The market is not asking for another bulky triangle stock. No serious gunman gives a damn about with S&W makes as far as rifles.

Tan anodizing is better than ceracoat which is a paint. An anodized solution when avaliable is 10x better than any ceracoat option.

I agree for the most part. The guys, saying to just paint it. It's not the point. Most would not buy a brand new vehicle (for example) in a color they dont want, with the mind set of just paint it. And many are not comfortable with the idea of spending 350-400 bucks on an item, just to rattle can it. Or turn around and spend more money to get it to the color they want, in a more appropriate finish.

Does the color matter much? Only to the end user. And it clearly matter to many end users. A quick look at the market and all brands and the colors they offer reveals this. I think this was a very poor choice on DD.

Also while the gun is just a tool. It's also something that many users take personal pride in. How one prefers to show of their pride is entirely different. Some want a perfect brand new factory look and will baby their tools (this goes for all tools) Some don't mind using their tools to their fullest and beyond, and some want to add a touch of personality to their tools. (example at my work we engraved the word Thor on a 12 lbs brass hammer as a personal and fun touch)

Also while they are tools. Tools that may serve multiple role. LE, HD, war, hunting ect. Their primary role (until otherwise needed) for most none law enforcment users is recreation. At least ofcourse, unless anyone is taking their own personal ar15 over to Afghanistan. So with that, having some personal "bling" or in this case their preferred color is fair enough and helps make the end users gun their own.
