help choose an optic for this rifle

    Hello Gents,

DD CHF 16" LW barrel, Centurion rail.

I would like a 1-6x variable, but a 1-4x may be an option, however it seems like the 1-4x's are obsolescent now that 1-6x scopes are available.

Absolute necessities is daylight illumination and ability to use the scope in an RDS setting.

I narrowed down to a few choices but all have associated concerns:

Swarovski Z6i - about $800 more expensive then I want to spend
Vortex Razor gen ii HD - way too heavy..a 25 oz scope on a LW build is pretty ridiculous in a sense
Leupold VX 6 multi gunner with SPR firedot - may be good but not available anywhere..can one order directly from Leupold custom shop? Also I'm not sure if it is daylight visible, and the 2.5 mil dot marks seem impractical, but I think this one seems the best bet right now, but deal breaker would be if not daylight visible
Leupold Mark 6 - FFP and not daylight visible is a deal breaker
    SWFA 1-6x, too heavy

    I've even thought of a few 1-4x's
Leupold vx-r patrol - exposed unlockable turrents and not true 1x, and again not sure if firedot is daylight visible
meopta zd - I would probably go for this one in 1-4x but, no wind holdover marks, and I'd hate to spend $1000 on "just" a 1-4x these days, but I'm still very intrigued by this one
burris mtac - I get the feeling it won't be robust enough otherwise great price and I think I really like the reticle, it is also daylight visible

Or I can go with a 4x Browe and learn to love the bindon aiming concept or maybe shoot it with the cap closed and both eyes open? An offset MDS is intriguing but I just think it is getting too complex at that point.

What do you guys think? I welcome tough love and setting me straight if I am getting something way off.

p.s. I was contemplating same optic for a 6720 but I decided to stay with an aim point pro for the 6720

I would go with the VX-R patrol. The fact that it's not a true 1X is not an issue if you shoot with both eyes open. Also, the firedot is daylight visible, and the price is right.

Great to hear that the firedot is daylight visible; this fact makes this a contender now I think. It is lightweight, and well made..probably a good fit for the rifle.
Do you guys have problems with the exposed turrets being knocked off zero?
In a RDS setting, from reading about it some are bugged by the 1.25x (which I hear is more like 1.5x) and others are not. Direct experiences?

This does not pertain to the Leupold scope…

However, I run a NF 1-4X24 scope on my LE6920. The only time it is on the 1X setting is when it is stowed away. Any shooting that I do, I run the scope on about 1.5X. I do not have any issues running it this way in a "RDS" type setting. I shoot with both eyes open.

I do not find there to be any distortion of the target when running my scope with this setting.

I recommend the Z6i. Linked is my thread on it. I love mine so much I'm planning to get another for my .308.

Before you suggest that licensing, background checks, or other restrictions for the 2nd Amendment are reasonable... Apply those same ideas to the 1st and 4th Amendments. Then tell me how reasonable they are.

I have a Multigunner 1-6. The Firedot is definitely daylight bright, I ran it in a Trident Concepts course on 1x as a red dot without issue and it looks like they're in stock at SWFA.

The 2.5 mils are kinda cumbersome though. Only you will know of that'll work for you.

I too am considering a variable for my SR-15 16". I have the NF NXS 1-4x24 at the top of my list. A Mark6 would be nice too.

If you go with the NF 1-4, my recommendation for reticle would be the FC-2.

I've run the FC-2 and a MIL-Dot and greatly appreciate the FC-2 and what it can do if you know how to range with it. I kick myself in the arse daily about converting one of my FC-2 reticles to the MIL-Dot.

Good to know, but I'm curious why you run it at 1.5x even for close quarters shooting?
I had a chance to look at the VX R in a store and I thought that, yes it may be doable to shoot with both eyes open with it, unless the range was extremely close, but unfortunately it wasn't on a rifle and it was sort of hard to tell.
