Aimpoints and BUIS. If I could afford it ACOGs as the maximum for magnified optics.

My personal belief on SHTF situations is that it is better to not draw attention, so i do have a hard time figuring out why some people advocate long distance shots for the purpose of property defense. Firearms are noisemakers, ergo it runs counter to the idea of avoiding notice. Riflescopes are only truly useful when you are hunting or minimally when you are scouting. Even then you are better off utilizing fieldcraft to avoid notice in the first place.

This mindset is however based on where I live so I accept that others would have a different view based upon where they live.

Geography would have some to do with it such as the wide open spaces in the Southwest. But a lot of people that like to make the claim of opening up at 1000 yards on "intruders" generally are talking out their rectal spots. Or the ones that actually would do such a thing are dangerous and tend to draw more attention to themselves then they should (your theory on avoiding notice) and make themselves out to be targets. Whether or not they can hit at that range is another matter entirely as plenty of folks have high powered scopes on super ninja precision rifles however, have never practiced enough to that distance to make initial much less repeated hits without the aid of blind luck.

I believe of the following setups have a place in different situations, likely with a good deal of overlap. I have competed more and taken more classes with the 14.5 Noveske T1 combo so I should probably go with that as a do all rifle though I have used each of them in those settings. I could make individualized cases for the 10.5 and 16" as well but they have likely already been addressed in the thread and are intuitive. One thing I am not sure has been mentioned is that I would definitely want to run the 10.5 in a situation where I wanted to have a rifle ready and operable in a vehicle. In my brief experience in one class setting I found it to be much easier to maneuver after watching other class members struggle with longer barreled rifles.

    10.5 Noveske with T1 + QD magnifier + BUIS
14.5 Noveske middy with T1 + QD magnifier + BUIS
14.5 cut down Colt 6920 tritium inserted irons only (LMT rear and colt FSB)
16 Noveske middy with Trijicon TR24 red triangle reticle with SureFire offsets

They all wear a SureFire light also. 2 x300 ultras. And the sbr has a mini scout.

I have an Aimpoint R1 on a 16" BCM with a Larue mount.

I chose to go with this as I've found that I can quickly and consistently get hits inside of 300 meters and I'm good with that.

If I come into a few bucks I would add a 3x magnifier just to answer the old adage of "better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it".

"Why "zombies"? Because calling it 'training to stop a rioting, starving, panicking, desperate mob after a complete governmental financial collapse apocalypse' is just too wordy." or in light of current events: "training to stop a rioting, looting, molotov cocktail throwing, skinny jeans wearing, uneducated bunch of lemmings duped by, or working directly for, a marxist organization attempting to tear down America while hiding behind a race-based name"

Reading this thread has caused me to really think about what is trully useful for my situation. I currently have a BCM mid 16 mod 0. It had the standard front sight base and Troy flip up rear until I just shaved the fsb and installed a Noveske 13.5 nsr. I think that I will go with a Troy tritium flip up front. After reading this thread irons may be all I need, but my wants may get in the way!

I've standardized all my carbines and AKs with aimpoint H-1s, irons, lights and slings. As to the why, worse case scenario, bump in the night, you need to clearly ID the threat, from a family member, drunk friend or neighbor passed out on the porch, and to quickly neutralize the threat(s) with accurate lethal fire with the RDS and light under low/no light conditions, IF it is determined to be an actual threat(s). The one in my trunk with the BOB (if I feel the need arise) is in a nondescript bag, dressed the same way, in case a mob type situation develops day or night (IE, riot, hurricane, etc...) or have to abandon the POV for what ever reason and hump it out of the area. It has been determined ages ago on M4C that a RDS, BUIS, light and sling is the most effective and efficient set up to deal with a 24 hr day possible threat. On this forum, and for many other people who are serious about having the most effective tool for the job, that set up is our KISS criteria.
