I have multiple SHTF M-4 rifles with Aimpoints and Leupuld 1.5 x5 but I'm saving for Vortex 1x6 Gen II.

I'm curious- When talking about a rifle for SHTF, is this a dedicated rifle separate from the one(s) used for training, self defense or duty?

Mine serves as a defensive tool, training tool and SHTF tool. I only have one rifle. Just gotta get the wife set up with one now.

CompM4S in a Larue mount with backups. I am soooooo tempted to go 1x4 though. Trying not to get on that bandwagon, cause then I'll just want a 1x6. If SHTF today, my RDS will be fine for the area I'm in. But I probably wouldn't being hanging around. So having the most versatile optic is best. I like the Viper PST. Reticle is good for up close (not that I plan on that, for distance is your friend), and good out to 400+. I'm interested to see what others have as well.

I took it to mean a rifle that's been vetted as good to go and used only for the proverbial SHTF.

It's not your training, HD, duty rifle then

I live in a dense urban area. Aimpoints on everything right now. If I could only grab ONE, it's got a PRO, with spare batteries in the stock and MBUS irons. If the lady is grabbing a rifle as well, that ones similar, but fixed FSP up front.
