As long as you have good irons, I would roll with them. Otherwise you'll just be paying for something you will most likely replace for something nicer, i.e. an aimpoint micro. That being said I think vortex sparcs are good light use red dots.

A few months ago I looked up everything I could find about the Vortex Sparc. It seems to be a fine optic for the price. Most of the problems encountered had to do with the battery compartment cap not being installed correctly. Vortex also has a great customer service from what I read. I ended up doing what most suggest on M4carbine.net. That is, saving up a little more and going with the Aimpoint Pro.

Most people I know who got a SPARC needed the warranty, me included. They sent me a brand new one, but based on personal experience I will never trust a SPARC on a serious use gun, never, ever.

Also, I think this isn't the right forum section to discuss this.

Ditto for the Aimpoint Pro. Absolutely the best optic for the price. Rarely will you find one much over the $400 mark, and I've even seen them listed under that.

The number one priority for me to consider any red dot type thing is reliability battery life. The mixed reviews on the Sparc pushed me to a comp C3. The leave on for a few years option is not negotiable for me.

If your considering a SPARC you may also want to consider a Primary Arms Micro. I personally don't like the rubber buttons off to the left for both eyes open. To me putting the buttons there defeats the purpose of it being that small. My Aimpoint H1 looks like a floating dot with both eyes open.

There are a few Aimpoints for sale on AR15.com in the $300 range...IMHO vortex is great in scopes...red dots...not so much..but they do have good customer service

Have a spark on my 22 and it works ok. Not very bright in the TX sun but usable. It also uses a goofy battery # so you're not going to be able to go to Walmart and get a replacement. I bought it knowing 100% that it would end up on a 22 and never put it on a rifle I was to use for self preservation. Save the $$ and roll with the irons if this dot is destined to keep you and your loved ones alive. Look for used aimpoints or just save for the PRO.
