    Colt 6920 - Poor choice?

While at work, I have to use the issued rifles, Bushmaster's and S&W M&P's. No option.

My own time is a different matter.

I have been using a Colt 6920 for training classes, and to have available, should "issues from work follow me home". Prior to the purchase of this 6920 in 2004, I have been using a Colt 6520.

I am satisfied with both of these Colt carbines. So much so that in the winter of 2006, I bought two additional Colt 6920's to set aside for my two kids, in case of any future bans.

I have read alot of Colt bashing on the internet, including some here. I have come to learn that there are a few quality guns out there in addition to the Colt, such as Noveske and LMT which many say are probably equal to or better than the Colt 6920.

After all of the Colt bashing threads on the various web sites, I am left to wonder if the quality of the Noveske's or the LMT's is such that I should consider selling off my Colts and replacing them with another manufacture's AR?

I didn't buy the guns I have because I am that attached to pictures of ponies. I bought them because I felt that they represented the best quality product I could obtain, after researching the subject as much as possible prior to purchasing these guns.

Some of the internet threads get into Colt bashing to the point I think I should feel I made a poor choice in choosing the 6920's.

If I ever needed my 6920, aside form training, then things have gotten rather ugly while off duty. It must work when needed. Period.

I don't know what the future holds for my children, so I wanted to set aside the best carbine/pistol combo I could afford for them. At the time I purchased their guns, I felt the 6920 was a wise choice. Now I am starting to have doubts.

Would you be concerned if you had to rely on a Colt 6920 as your only AR?

keep them with confidence. i wouldn't worry about it.
Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, “Baa.” Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

    Give them to me!

Since you didn't charge me, you shouldn't have any guilt.

    Seriously, KEEP THEM!!!

Some people think the 6920 is the holy grail of AR15s. It might be. I have one Colt and traded one Colt for a second LMT. As much as I like the LMT, it may be as good as the COLT, but certainly not better.
Don't let the Colt bashers get in your head. Many of them are just tired that anytime someone asks about a problem with their gun, the Colt guys say "you should have bought a Colt". I get sick of it too, and I own one.

The Colt is a damn fine weapon. The current 6920s are typically some of the best rack guns ever built for civilians. Deploy with total confidence.

Thumbs up Colt 6920, Never a bad choice

While a case may be made that "X" brand may be equal to, or better than a 6920, you can bet your life, with piece of mind, that the 6920 will deliver the mail when the heat is on.

    Good choice.

Yeah, they can make that argument all they want. I'm still waiting for the proof.

I have run a Colt AR15A3 with a shortened barrel for years (approximately 5 or so)... All DUTY useage. It has several thousand rounds through it and I took it to last weekends MAGPUL Dynamics Advanced Carbine Course. It functioned flawlessly with only one cleaning performed in between running approximately 2000 rounds through it and torturing the piss out of it. Not a single issue or problem. I watched a Rock River Arms (DEA Model) crap out and a Noveske (a fluke I'm sure). I dont subscride to Colt being the end all to be all but they have been in the business of providing operators with weapons that will work for along time now. Mine has never gone south or left me in a sticky situation. It should be noted that Matt Edwards of ATS Tactical ran a 6720 right next to me and DID NOT clean his during the entire course. He only kept the bolt carrier group lubed and it too ran like a champ.

Answer to your question: No, no and hell no.

As far as your dept only allowing you to use issued S&W & Bushwhackers.....It is unfortunate they will not allow you to carry what the Smith's and Bushy's are trying to be...a Colt. That's not kool-aid, that's just fact. I can understand the liability concerns from un-educated admin about "built" or "custom" rifles, but not a quality factory rifle.

On that note, I have a 6921 trunk monkey and believe it to be the absolute best tool for my job. Thankfully my admin concur's.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am fully prepared to give my left nut for a Noveske, a LMT build or a LWRC. But even with the Noveske and down one nut, I would still choose the 6921 for my duty weapon.

    Now a Sig 552....hmmm.....

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 6920.

    Thumbs up

To bad your department won't let you use yours as a duty weapon. From an owner of a 6920, you made a wise choice for you and your children. The 6920 is a high quality weapon, period.
