My own time is a different matter.

I have been using a Colt 6920 for training classes, and to have available, should "issues from work follow me home". Prior to the purchase of this 6920 in 2004, I have been using a Colt 6520.

I am satisfied with both of these Colt carbines. So much so that in the winter of 2006, I bought two additional Colt 6920's to set aside for my two kids, in case of any future bans.

I have read alot of Colt bashing on the internet, including some here. I have come to learn that there are a few quality guns out there in addition to the Colt, such as Noveske and LMT which many say are probably equal to or better than the Colt 6920.

After all of the Colt bashing threads on the various web sites, I am left to wonder if the quality of the Noveske's or the LMT's is such that I should consider selling off my Colts and replacing them with another manufacture's AR?

I didn't buy the guns I have because I am that attached to pictures of ponies. I bought them because I felt that they represented the best quality product I could obtain, after researching the subject as much as possible prior to purchasing these guns.

Some of the internet threads get into Colt bashing to the point I think I should feel I made a poor choice in choosing the 6920's.

If I ever needed my 6920, aside form training, then things have gotten rather ugly while off duty. It must work when needed. Period.

I don't know what the future holds for my children, so I wanted to set aside the best carbine/pistol combo I could afford for them. At the time I purchased their guns, I felt the 6920 was a wise choice. Now I am starting to have doubts.

Would you be concerned if you had to rely on a Colt 6920 as your only AR?

Your concerns stink of the TOS. If you get your advice from TOS I can almost guarantee you a confused state of mind. I've owned Colt's before, however they were the civy models and not the 6920. I currently own a Bushmaster M4 and a LMT M4. The LMT has been foolproof from the start. My BM is now a fine rifle but it took a few corrective mods to get it there. I was going to get a 6920 just a few months back, when money was finally in hand the supply had dried up and what could be found was $1500+. In my opinion the Colt is not worth an extra $500+ over a LMT but price not withstanding I don't think you would ever go wrong with the 6920. In my personal opinon there are 3 top choices of 'factory' rifles. Colt, LMT, Noveske. Rank them at your own discretion

I think you picked the best heirloom AR for your kids...out of curiosity, what did you choose for the pistol part of the combo? I think I'd go Sig P226.

I'm not going to say the Colt is better than an LMT or Noveske, but it is most certainly no worse. Colt has always been the bench mark. You have made an absolutely fine choice for your children. Good on you for thinking ahead on their behalf.

Unfortunate, but not uncommon. Some is policy for the sake of itself. Some is required by RM or insurance folks. Hang in there.

Would you be concerned if you had to rely on a Colt 6920 as your only AR?
Not only am I not concerned, I'd be pleased to have such an affliction.

6920 is my go-to for work and play.

The others you mention, Noveske and LMT, are GTG as well, but not anything I'd dump an existing stock of 6920s for. Worthy, for certain, as new acquisitions.

Number one gun on "The Chart" is the 6920. You made a very good choice.

There are only three types: Trained, Un-trained or JAFO.
    Which one are you?

The only reason I am not willing to pay the premium for a Colt is their non-standard (ironic that the "standard" is non-standard ) FGC pins.

That being said, thought I have a preference for LMT, I cannot claim them to be better than Colt, and you would be hard-pressed to prove it to be equal. The Noveske is a bit different though.

John has options not available to a Colt or LMT buyer, and effing match-grade accuracy out of his double chrome lined barrels. Twice the accuracy with longer life. You can also go for a mid-length gas system on either a 14.5 or 16" barrel. You don't need to buy additional parts and swap them to meet your preferences, the wrench-turners do it for you.

While I would not get rid of all your Colts for Noveske's, I think you might consider selling 1 for 1 for one of these- Noveske N4 Light Recce Basic, or go with the railed version w/ sights for a few hundred more.

Still, the 6920 is a great carbine. More than one instructor will tell you if you ask what to buy, "Buy a Colt 6920 and don't f**k with it!"

If the opening remarks here hadn't included such a thorough explanation, I would have thought this thread was some kind of attempt at veiled humor. True, there are other worthy contenders on the market, but the one immutable fact unpinning any comparative dicussion is that Colt remains the benchmark by which the others are judged.

That's not to say that Colt is above criticism, but among those who stake their lives on their equipment -- as opposed to those who are risking only their internet "reputations" -- the rampant pony still denotes a "best in class" carbine.

I obtained a pair of Glock 19's for the kids in 2000 from the local police supply store in our city. They came in with consecutive serial numbers, thought that was kind of cool.

We have been issued S&W M&P 9mm's for the last two years, I have grown to be so impressed with the M&P that I drove to Vances in Columbus and bought two full size M&P's before the rebate ended. After the rebate is taken into account, it ended up being $370 plus tax per gun and 5 mags. Might sell off the Glocks, but I'm not in any hurry to sell off any guns currently. They're paid for, and they don't cost me anything to sit in the safe.

As far as my original post, thanks for all of the replies. I feel better about my 6920's.

I'm attempting to talk myself into one more AR before the November elections. If I have the funds, I'm tempted to take a hard look at the NoveskeN4 Light Reece Basic. Mainly due to their barrel.

I was gonna say, the Glock 19 would be a close utilitarian 2nd choice for me. I love the G19...you know it'll work, and it'll last forever. I would not trade a Glock for a S&W. And we're are in agreement on caliber for your intended purpose!
