Do you know what standards PSA follows with their guns? No, you don't and is anyones guess.

Please tell us why Colt's produced now are not as good as they were in the past (am all ears).

Well being that the barrel I am referring to is built by FN, I can honestly say that yes we can spec it out.

Colt is no longer the AR rifle to buy, do your research, they have cheapened up their rifles to increase profit margin, but did not lower the price.

They as well as S&W have gone to a lower grade barrel. But the price has stayed stag net. How is that better for the end user after the market for these guns is starting to come more in line to the end user. I remember the days of $2000-2500 Colt 6920's

Colts quality is all over the place these days, along with many other brands. It is a supply thing that they as manufactures are having a hard time keeping up with demand.

The market has now focused on quantity over quality. And you can't deny it. Cut a couple dollars here, and a couple dollars their, they will still buy it attitude.

So give it a break and face reality.

I have owned several Stag rifles. They are decent hobby rifles. For a person looking to only own one rifle I think Stag falls off the list quickly for the same price out of pocket as the Colt or just a tiny bit more. While no mechanical device will be 100% reliable 100%of the time you can shave a few points off the probability scale when buying a rifle from Colt or DD or BCM.

Your money and your life. Good luck and be safe.

You came to the wrong place if you were looking for people to tell you to buy the stag. I'm sure your ffl is telling you it is the bomb digity and you want to buy it from him/shoot it with him. A real gun guy will have more respect for someone who does their research and gets a better gun for close to the same price. If you honestly are just gonna shoot is at the range with this one dude (strange) then get whatever you want. But like grant said, many many people SAY that. However they buy a stag/dpms for 200 bucks less and then 2 years later have tons of shit hanging off it and are shooting it at a class hoping to smoke an intruder with it in the middle of the night. It's a complex we see time and time again and are just trying to save you from. The reason plinkers turn into defensive guns real quick is that AR's are amazing tools and after spending some time with it you quickly want to ditch your shotty.

If for some reason i was a cheap bastard (and I'm not, even though i live below the poverty line), i would go for an m&p sport or a PSA home build. But otherwise id get a quality gun…

LOL, for a new commer to the forum you are extremly bold, especially when basically telling an extremely knowledgable person on the platform (and one of the forums most recommended dealers) that he doesn't know anything and needs to research.

Probably good to relax a bit and not put down people which obviously know light years of info more than you.

Arfcom probably a better fit for this kind of behavior.

Ps you don't "build barrels" you make or manufactur them.

Awesome post! But that $700 colt isnt even 1x7. They want $1500 for the 6920!! Grant is around $1000ish.

I feel like this thread won't last much longer, OP please read everyone's suggestions. We are only trying to help you. If the arguing starts the thread could be locked and you will be left confused and empty handed.

It seems pretty clear to me OP had already made up his mind to buy a Stag and was only looking for some positive reinforcement. Not going to happen here.

OP, I bought a stag for my first rifle. To be honest, it was pretty accurate and 100% reliable. That said, I only put a couple thousand rounds on it. After using it and becoming better, I began to see mods I wanted to put into it. I ended up having adco(a very reputable company) build me a very good rifle. Due to resale, I held onto the stag for the girl.

If you want complete honesty - save a couple hundred $ and get a top level rifle. People spend $100 on booze on a weekend, or a nice night out - its not that much money for something you will be handing down to your grandchildren. buy once- cry once.

Get a solid, but basic rifle (colt/bcm/dd) and get a 10"+ free float handguard - that's one everyone does anyway because it works.

If all you want is something to shoot paper with once every few months and you are not interested in the 6920 and above market, get the M&P Sport like people are saying. If you can get a better deal on the stag, then OK. But the second you start to get ideas about upgrading this, changing out that, or adding another just quit while you're ahead. Dump it and buy a quality rifle like Colt or BCM and save yourself the money and trouble.
