    Buy this upper... http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...ng-handle.html

Add a lower parts kit... buy a stripped lower and come out ahead for under $700.00 beans. With sights added.

The barrel on this setup is built by FN, is double chrome lined, 1:7 twist and comes with a pretty decent BCG.
Way better rifle for the money than the previous offerings.

Barrel alone smokes the Stag or the Colt barrel. And the BCG is nothing to look bad upon. Barrel and BCG are as good as most for under $1500.00.

Then after you shoot it, think about what changes you would like to make and go from their.

You will have a nice rifle for the budget minded shooter. Add your optic, buy some ammo and go have fun.

Mine is a blast to shoot, over 1500 rounds down the pipe, not one hic-up yet to date. And it shoots 1 MOA @100 yards.

I better knock on wood, don't want to jinx my rifle. It has been good to me so far.

I'm most certainly not ignoring them. I'm still trying to justify it to myself by spending nearly twice as much on a rifle I'll use once a month to plink at the range. If it truly was just a few bucks more I'd probably get the colt. But it's more like $400-500. I know you guys know what your talking about. I've never doubted it. I think I am going to sit on all if this for a week and see what happens. That's why I asked in the first place. Again I thank everyone for their opinions and advice.

Op if you are concerned with a few hundred dollars in rifle price difference you should not bother getting into an AR15 unless it will sit in your closet. There is so much money to shooting this platform including ammo, optics, handguards, lights, bipod, mounts, muzzle devices, grips, ammo cases, buis, rifle case, range money, targets, hearing and eye pro, tools for making changes and don't forget the whole world of reloading. If your pinching pennies just stick with your shotgun and shoot your old man's BM once a month.

Don't sit on it for a week on the deal I posted about above, it won't be their. This is a nice upper for the money. You just need to put together the lower. You will save a minimum of $200.00 to $250.00 doing it this way because you don't have to pay Uncle Sam his tax on a complete rifle. And I am not joking about the barrel and BCG being top notch for the money. Can you buy better... yes but you better be ready to dig into your pocket deeper.

And have a gun with a better barrel than what the Colt has for................$750.00
This kit is a step up from their premium line, and you don't see it on sale often.

Now do I have a better gun than the Colt?
I believe I do, does it have better resale... probably not. But it shoots just as well as any Colt out their.
And I think I would be hard pressed to shoot it out.
The Colts being built today are not the same guns they used to be.
You are associating accuracy with overall capability of the weapon. I can get a super cheap SS barrel that will out shoot a chrome lined colt barrel. Does that mean that they gun is better? No.

Do you know what standards PSA follows with their guns? No, you don't and is anyones guess.

Please tell us why Colt's produced now are not as good as they were in the past (am all ears).

You cannot judge an AR by fit and finish or by how tight the upper and lower fit.

This is inherently the problem with the AR (they all look the same).

Are you familiar with the TDP?

That's the thing I'm struggling with. It will basically be a safe queen. I basically need my own since he would be coming with me to the range and we'd shoot together. At this point who knows. Maybe the guy can cut me a sweet deal on the colt. I don't know. I do have one question that is going against all (it seems that way anyway) suggestions and such. But I think it needs to be asked and because I'm just that guy. Has anyone that is telling me to steer clear of the stag and similar price range rifles actually owned one? It almost comes down to the old don't knock it if you haven't tried it saying. I know that that question will get a lot of people pissed off at me. But I'm OK if people don't like me.

The SPORT is the best "cheap" AR made (hands down). Nothing comes close to it.

19trax95, you mention just doing some "plinking" each month with your intended AR. What attracted you to the AR platform for just plinking? You can do the same thing with a Ruger 10/22 or Mini-14, and some bolt and lever action rifles. Many of us here have former/current military service. I fired my first M16A1 in 1978 at Fort Knox, Kentucky when I was 18 years old. I thought that was the coolest thing I had ever shot, and it was a Colt. After I had a little more coin in my pocket due to a promotion to 1st Lt., I bought my first civilian AR 15 brand new (still have it). I now own 7 Colts and 1 LMT.

I wouldn't spend $600 for an AR if you're only going to plink with it. It's a specialty weapon that can be used for sporting purposes, but the ammo is not cheap these days. It can be a great target firearm and an excellent home defense weapon. I carry one on horseback nearly everyday. Great for varmits, 4 legged and 2 legged. If you're set on an AR, save your money and get a good one. If you ever run into financial problems in the future, you can get your money back with a Colt. It's like money in the bank.
