Are you saying that you now prefer the 1-4's because you can PID without binos? If so, that's something I hadn't thought of...

It's another tool usable for PID - the same way our ACOGs were invaluable simply because we were constantly trying to look at details of stuff without getting close. It's not the end-all tool for PID acquisition, but it's another tool readily available if need be.

As far as value arguments between the red dots - the H-1 fills the gap in between - almost the value of the PRO, but the exact same form and weight factor as the T-1; I'm really convinced the H-1 is the best civilian optic they make.

Jumping back into my thread here...

I acquired an Aimpoint PRO just in the past week.

I have to say, I love the "soldier proofing" in that you can't overtighten the mount, you just put the battery in the cap and screw the cap on (can't accidentally bend any contacts that way), comes with lense caps and the mount already on the sight (no worries about stripping a screw hole's threads).

I held it in one hand and my T1 with American Defense mount in the other and honestly the weight difference is almost unnoticeable.

I also got to where I didn't even lift the clear lense cap at the rear to sight through it.

I have to say, I'm a new fan of the Aimpoint PRO. The only thing I don't like is that the batteries are harder to find than the CR2032 of the micros. I had to go to a battery specialty store to find a spare. I may order some from Amazon just to have on hand.

Personally, I feel the OEM mount for the Pro flat out sucks. It's blocky, the knurled knob is huge & it comes loose often. YMMV

I went back and reread some Aimpoint PRO threads, and the problem with loosening seems to crop up now and again. Other people haven't had an issue with it. I guess I'll watch mine for a while and order a LaRue mount or something if I need to.

Other than that, I'm genuinely debating whether I like it better than the T1/H1/R1.

It's a nice RDS for sure, especially for the price. My only beef with Aimpoints is having to drop another $100+ on a decent mount, above the original cost. To me, that loses some of the appeal.

There is a mod here somewhere that fixes the loosening issue but I believe it defeats the "QD" function of it. That may/may not matter to you.

In a way, all of Aimpoint's mounts tend to suck. I don't care for the LRP mount for the micros, either.

Just picking Bravo Company's optics page at random because they display all the Aimpoints with all the prices on one page, the PRO is still just over $400, while the next one up is the Comp ML2, and it's not even as capable as the PRO for $464. It's hard to touch any other Aimpoint/mount combo for under $600. So if you're Aimpoint PRO factory mount turns out to be a good one, then you're $200 ahead, and if you buy just the basic aftermarket mount for around $110 then you're still about $100 ahead.

You also get everything pre-mounted so you don't have to take a chance on stripping a screw hole (something we've all done), and you don't have to buy separate lense covers. Does anybody really use the bikini that comes with the micros? I think most people have bought a Tango Down I/O cover by now.

The PRO has a wider field of view, and is easier to get on target faster. As previously mentioned, the weight savings going micro is almost negligible. I did have a problem zipping up my discreet case with the PRO and a 30-round mag in the rifle, but that's nitpicking.

I'll stick by my one beef that battery availability is the PRO's real drawback.

My PRO QRP mount came loose only once. After that, I just crank on it until it will not get any tighter (you only get small increments if movement) and it's never happened again. Also, I took my mount apart and loctited everything. Probably not necessary, but I don't care.

The knob is huge, digs my gut when slung and generally sucks, but I like the QD feature and it returns to zero very well if you properly index it before tightening, so I tolerate it.

Used them all. Own a Pro and T1 among others.

My vote is the Aimpoint Pro in a Larue mount. There is a kind of magic and brilliance in simplicity.
